The league of extraordinary women artists represented in our Wilder library is now joined by German artist Anni Albers (1899-1994). On our search for a book on her revolutionary textile and print work, we stumbled upon this superb facsimile of her only known notebook.
Between 1970 and 1980, Anni Albers filled her graph-paper notebook regularly. This rare and previously unpublished document of her working process contains intricate drawings for her graphic work, as well as studies for her late knot drawings. The notebook reveals the way she went about making complex patterns, exploring them piece by piece, line by line.
A sketchbook offers a little peak behind the curtains of an artist’s mind. There’s traces of tape, annotations and red accents. A fascinating geometric parade holding the promise of colourful prints and forever modern designs.
