Oxia - Domino (Dave Canto's 'Infansonido' Refix)
This is my personal refix of Oxia's techno classic: 'Domino', taken from the 'Speicher 34' EP released in April 2006 at Kompakt Extra (Cologne). Oscillating melodic tones, a skippy high-end and a driving insistence give this atmospheric and melodic techno track an anthemic lift which works well on the dancefloor.
In 2013, Kompakt Records wanted to do something special for their 20th anniversary. They asked multi-instrumentalist and orchestral composer Gregor Schwellenbach to deconstruct 20 of the label's signature tracks into pure classical arrangements for a hand-picked ensemble of chamber musicians. His goal was to give each cut "a new voice" while retaining "the core of the experience: the melody, the hook, the feeling" despite the vastly different presentation. On May 27th 2013, the resulting album 'Gregor Schwellenbach Spielt 20 Jahre Kompakt' was released. It features 20 chamber music versions arranged by Schwellenbach and played with assists from flutist Dorothee Oberlinger, guitarist Christian Buck and harpist Jane Berthe, who are all veteran classical musicians.
Schwellenbach also reworked Olivier Raymond's 'Domino' which is one of Kompakt's greatest hits. It was Wolfgang Voigt who suggested that "the bursting energy of the treble semiquavers (16th notes) might work well on strings" and he was damn right. The subtle classical addition of Schwellenbach's chamber music ensemble takes this track to the next level. I just can’t stop listening to it. What about you?

Booka Shade – Night Falls (Dave Canto’s ‘Night Falls of String...
This is my personal refix of Booka Shade‘s beautiful gem: ‘Night Falls’, taken from the ‘Movements’ album released in 2006 at Get Physical Music (Berlin). According to Resident Advisor, ‘Night Falls’ deserves more than one listen: it will intrigue you more if you know its destination. This is exactly what I had in mind when creating this refix: intensify that mysterious sense even more. Hence I’ve used samples from Larry Gold‘s ‘Night Falls Over Philly’ String Version, taken from ‘Cinematic Shades (The Slow Songs)’ album released in 2008.
The subtle classical addition of Larry Gold’s uplifting string quartet takes this track to the next level. I just can’t stop listening to it. What about you?

"I love Marko on Sundays" mixed by DAVE CANTO
It all began back in 2003 with a great gig of Marko at MusiCafé while studying in Leuven. Later on I discovered his "Marko on Sundays" compilations released under the N.E.W.S. Records label. These little gems of progressive house music convinced me to create a new mix of only the most funky, dirty and deep underground tunes. The last compilation already dates from 2005, but still it sounds like it could have been released yesterday. This proves the timelessness of Marko's musical flavour as both a DJ and artist.
His biography only confirms what has been stated before:
For the past 14 years Marko has been the resident DJ for the legendary "La Rocca on Sunday" nights at La Rocca Ballroom in Lier which is a quite remarkable achievement. He has been called a specialist by some and 'middle of the road' by others, but everyone agrees: Marko has got real talent and he is a true professional. For years his name appeared in the Belgian top 10 DJ's readers poll of dance music magazine "Outsoon". In 2004 he was also voted "Best Belgian Progressive DJ". His main source of energy comes directly from the dance floor. Its feedback drives him on. He's a master in picking up its vibe and guiding it into his sets. An amazing collection of vinyl helps him to create an incredible atmosphere among the party crowd.
If you're not convinced by now, then you should visit La Rocca on a Sunday night when Marko spins the decks and you'll know what I mean. In the meanwhile you can always download my set and have an early experience with your own ears. I'm sure you'll want to get out and party all night long after listening to these progressive sounds. Don't say that I haven't warned you!

"I love House of Om : Part 1" mixed by DAVE CANTO
On Saturday the 20th of November I went to Play & Produce 2010 at Vooruit in Gent. This one day event, organized by Poppunt, is the place to be for all electronic music scene lovers with workshops, masterclasses, mixtape feedback, photoshoots and lots of gear (software + hardware) to get your hands on. Every visitor gets the chance to meet with other deejays, producers and electronic musicians sharing the same passion.
A couple of weeks before, I participated in a mixtape contest and won my own professionally recorded DJ-clip at Play & Produce. I got the chance to play with some high-end Pioneer Pro DJ gear: 2 CDJ-2000 players and 1 DJM-2000 mixer. My set was recorded live from multicamera positions and behind me there was a led-screen showing various beat-synchronized images. I can say that it was a hell of an experience and thanks again to all people who made this possible!
Om is a San Francisco based music and lifestyle company. We are artists and producers of music, design, fashion and events for a global community of forward thinking people. From our humble beginnings in 1995, Om has grown to become a highly recognized and respected brand in the global music scene. Om is designed to create remarkable music and cultural experiences, which both entertain and build a sense of community.
All tracks of my Play & Produce set are signed to the Om Records label, which is one of my favourites 'cause they know how house music should sound like in all of its subgenres and styles. Enjoy this deep house music and experience the funky and tech house flavoured tracks.
See you at the next edition of Play & Produce in 2012! For the love of house!
