“The Third Perspective”, currently on view at TheMerode, is curated by Francesca Gavin, editor-in-chief of Epoch Review and the Artistic Director of art fair viennacontemporary.

The group show explores themes such as nuance, atmosphere, and subtlety based on Japanese novelist Jun’ichirō Tanizaki’s iconic essay on aesthetics: “In Praise of Shadows”.

One of the most influential figures in the art world today, Koyo Kouoh will be at TheMerode on the 4th of February for an exclusive conversation with African artist Kendell Geers - a collaboration with GLEAN Magazine.

Koyo Kouoh is curator of the 2026 Venice Biennial and the first African woman to head the renowned international exhibition. She is also the curator (together with Tandazani Dhlakama) of “When We See Us”, an exhibition exploring Black self-representation through Black figurative painting from the 1920s to today, that opens at Brussels’ Bozar on 7 February.

Iconic Italian architect and designer Ettore Sottsass’s passion for glass

Ettorre Sottsass (1907-2017) is celebrated for his bold use of colour and his innovative creations in furniture, jewellery, lighting, homeware, buildings, and interiors. He collaborated with Olivetti for more than 30 years, designing groundbreaking products such as the Elea 9003 - the first Italian electronic calculator - in 1959.

On 28 January at TheMerode, art historian and glass specialist Cristina Beltrami and design expert Astrid Malingreau invite you to delve deeper into a lesser aspect of his impressive oeuvre: his boundary-pushing glassworks.

The Kogi people of Colombia - a source of timeless wisdom

Descendants of the ancient Tayrona civilization, the Kogi people have preserved a profound understanding of the interconnectedness between humans, nature, and the wider living world. Indigenous communities have a lot to offer when it comes to modern societies rethinking their relationship with nature while fighting to reclaim their ancestral lands and protect their natural environment.

Eric Julien has been connected with the Kogi people since 1985 when they nursed him back to health after he fell ill during a mountain trek.

He will be at TheMerode on Monday, 20 January, 18h30, to talk about his experiences.

We delved into the making of one of Belgium’s most celebrated films with two of the country’s leading voices in film today! ‘Julie Keeps Quiet’, nominated at the Oscars, is a powerful and critically acclaimed drama that has captured the attention of audiences and critics alike.

After a memorable screening, producer Gilles De Schryver, a driving force behind Julie Keeps Quiet, joined award-winning filmmaker Lukas Dhont (Girl, 2018) for an engaging conversation. Together, they explored the creative and production processes behind this remarkable film and discussed the evolving landscape of Belgian cinema.
