🌞 Exploring the Sun in « L’Etranger » 🌞

Albert Camus once said in a 1955 interview that before being a man who thinks, he is a man who feels, and that his thoughts are merely the shaping of his sensory experiences. Meursault, the character from Camus’ novel, shares this heightened sensitivity to such an extent that he blames the sun for his actions.

« In Sole Ambulare » (walking in the sun) presents the Sun as a character in its own right, omnipresent in the novel. It burns, dazzles, and reveals the « truth » and the world’s cruelty. Art by Christine Safa, Adriano Costa, and Oscar Tuazon captures this intense heat, reflecting Meursault’s dual relationship with the sun. Mentally detached yet physically hypersensitive, Meursault is like a prisoner who has left the cave, seen the sun, and now has to understand and accept the absurdity of life.
