Brussels Jazz Festival 2025 🎶
Flagey X Korean Cultural Center Brussels
Bram De Looze & Doyeon Kim

During the Brussels Jazz Festival, a performance we hold close to our hearts will take place on Sunday, January 12 ✨

🌍 From Korea to New York, Doyeon Kim's virtuosity spreads like wildfire as she captivates with her chosen instrument, the gayageum. Its complexity, combined with the ethereal sounds it produces, aligns perfectly with Belgian pianist Bram De Looze's appetite for new soundscapes. "It's a very special instrument," he confides, "and it's truly incredible how Doyeon Kim uses jazz language on such an instrument. It sounds like something you've never heard before. I'm slowly immersing myself in Korean culture, and finding her was a blessing: I don’t know if I could’ve found anyone else with the ability to understand jazz, improvise on it, and also be one of Korea's top classical musicians."

🔥 Two maestros of their craft come together on stage in Studio 1. When we said wildfire, we meant it.

Have you heard of Gimjang? It’s a cherished Korean tradition that happens every year at the end of fall. Families and communities come together to prepare and share large quantities of kimchi, ensuring every household has enough to sustain them through the year.

Gimjang isn’t just a tradition—it’s about connection, culture, and passing down traditions from one generation to the next. In fact, it’s so culturally important that UNESCO recognized it in 2013 as part of the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

This centuries-old practice embodies the spirit of sharing and togetherness, making it a beautiful example of how food can unite us all. ✨
