THE MEN AND WOMEN IN BLACK
The Invisible People You See Every Day
(Symbolically, because we come in all colors, shapes, and sizes)

Maybe it's time to clarify who 'we' in the event industry really are. Judging by some reactions, it seems there's a bit of confusion. And we can't blame you for that—there’s a reason we often wear black: you’re not supposed to see us. Our job is to remain invisible so that you leave with something extra—a genuine smile, delightful memories, knowledge, good feelings, awareness, emotional resonance, and more. When you head home, you don't wonder how it all went so smoothly.

Each of us in the event world builds emotions, from the dream to the memory, but what does this really mean?

Imagine you've organized a party with food, decorations, and entertainment for a child's communion, your own wedding, or a grandparent’s jubilee. Now picture doing that in a (usually) empty venue or open space, starting from scratch. Think about every little detail—from letting people know about the event to ensuring there's enough toilet paper. Consider making everything memorable, enjoyable, and affordable—life is expensive for everyone, right?

The comparison might seem straightforward, but let me walk you through the complexity of organizing, say, a corporate event for 200 guests with entertainment and dinner. And yes, there will be awards and a special recognition for someone.

Events are experiences that bring people together for a specific purpose at a specific place and time, delivering a specific message that leaves you with new knowledge, a memory, motivation, or even a sneak preview of something upcoming. You always leave with more than you came, however intangible it might be.

Events can be for pleasure (like art, culture, festivals, sports), informative or motivational, educational, relaxing, or even to prepare you for upcoming challenges. They bring people together or provide personal guidance and advice. They blend innovation and tradition, using all media and driving creative thinking.

Events paint the colors we see, smell, taste, hear, and experience in society! We, the men and women in black, come in all types, and because we work behind the scenes, we remain unknown. And in these times, unknown often means unappreciated—even forgotten!

Did you know our entertainment technicians and designers are among the world's best? That our event sector is globally active? We have top caterers, renowned hospitality, and versatility in styling and decor. Nearly every event you see in social or classic media involves Belgians. Top stars request Belgian experts on their tours, and venues worldwide are built on Belgian designs.

Even during these bizarre COVID times, you've encountered us weekly. You don't see us, but we see you, and we create for you!

The last couple of weeks we have been very busy working on the European Elections 2024 campaign in the Hemicycle of the European Parliament under the respectful and motivating professional leadership of Xavier Nyssen working with his top team.

Invited to the team by DB Video and Trimex BVBA we had the pleasure and honour to work on this prestigious event in very specific conditions all the way. Still in awe for the complexity of this production, I wish to thank all collleagues for the nice and professional collaboration, the Parliament team for their trust, partnership and hospitality, but most of all DB Video and Trimex for having me on board once again for this unique broadcasting event.

Years ago, during guest lectures to students, I was showcasing her event roadbook and scenario as the epitome of an ideal script. Today, we are proud and thrilled to introduce Eva Maes as one of our Stage Directors. By day, Eva works at Samsung, but she graciously carves out time to help build our shows whenever possible.

What’s the difference between TCS and AoE, and why do we have two labels? It all started with ArchitectofEMOTION, offering creative services and gathering talented freelancers. Initially, we supported Belgian event agencies with creative upgrades. As demand grew, especially internationally, we began handling full productions, managing all artistic aspects. Our close collaboration with clients means we’re not just suppliers but an interim show team, ensuring total creative ownership.

Living in fantasy worlds, she brings the most beautiful characters to life through her stunning costume designs. Elvira Van Bavinckhove has been a creative sparring partner for our shows for years, excelling in design, patterns, materials, and the finest sewing and stitching work.

Not only does she excel in costumes, but also in props and special accessories. When Elvira takes charge, everything falls perfectly into place. She is another remarkable woman who makes our team even stronger!
