Q***R ARTS FESTIVAL is coming up!

Na de fantastische Leuven Pride op 27 september, met meer dan 2.000 bezoekers, gaan we in oktober gewoon door met het vieren van de creativiteit van de LGBTI+gemeenschap! Met nu ook de tweede editie van het Q***r Arts Festival Leuven wordt onze stad dit najaar dé q***r hoofdstad van Vlaanderen en ver daarbuiten – ons festivalthema is niet toevallig ‘To the moon’. Na het eerste succesvol festival in 2023 (meer dan 1.200 bezoekers) plannen we dit jaar in oktober liefst 20 evenementen. Hiervoor werken we vanuit Q***r Leuven samen met sterke partners als 30CC, STUK, Het Depot, OPEK, UniQue en Stad Leuven. Verwacht jullie van 10 tot 31 oktober aan een krachtig programma vol concerten, theater, waacking-dans, drag shows, debat en feest, verspreid over de hele stad. Zo willen we artiesten uit de regenbooggemeenschap in de kijker te zetten en fijne activiteiten te plannen voor iedereen uit de community.
We nodig jullie heel graag uit op onze openingsavond op vrijdag 10 oktober in STUK! We starten om 19u met een gratis receptie en krachtige speeches in het STUKcafé. Daarna is er een niet te missen Prince-concert van Porcelain ID en Youniss, die Purple Rain brengen. Gentle Boys Club brengt een spetterende drag kings show, er is videokunst en een expo, en we sluiten de avond af met DJ's straight again en Georgy Gorgeous!

Grootschalige hoogtepunten
Het festival opent op vrijdag 10 oktober met een uitbundig feest in STUK. Drie weken later, op zaterdag 31 oktober, sluiten we het festival af met Dead Star Disco in De Optimist: een spooky slotfeest met zinnenprikkelende performances.
Op het festival verwelkomen we met Over the Rainbow de allereerste bijeenkomst van de internationale waacking- en q***r dance community in Leuven. Op zaterdag 18 oktober kan u in Het Depot genieten van dance battles in verschillende stijlen en categorieën - absoluut niet te missen! Op zondag zijn er waacking-dansworkshops voor beginners en gevorderden, en op de kick-off vrijdag lip sync performances.
Theater en comedy
Zin in een avond vol humor? Tijdens de Comedy Night in 30CC/Wagehuys laten q***r comedians Dena Vahdani, Marlies Verschueren, Iris Costrop en Lassyri u op maandag 13 oktober over de grond rollen van het lachen.
Met Family brengt Louis Janssens op dinsdag 21 oktober in 30CC/Minnepoort een aangrijpend theaterstuk over chosen family in de q***r gemeenschap. De voorstelling, die werd bedolven onder de sterren, raakt een universele snaar.
In de intieme bibliotheek van Museum PARCUM kan u genieten van een eerste tekstlezing van Classical Q***rs. Theater- en radiomaker Johannes Wirix-Speetjens geeft er op woensdag 15 oktober een inkijk in zijn voorstelling, die in voorjaar 2026 te zien zal zijn bij 30CC.
Muziek, film en drag
Het knusse café van Het Depot verwelkomt voor de tweede keer Q***rs on stage, een bonte avond met getalenteerde q***r muziekartiesten die werden gekozen uit de talrijke inzendingen via het platform VI.BE. Op dit gratis evenement op zaterdag 10 oktober ontdekt u de grote muzieknamen van de toekomst!
Film is er met de vertoning van Wizard of Oz in Cinema Zed op donderdag 16 oktober: kom mee dromen met Dorothy in deze technicolor filmklassieker, aangevuld met een drag performance. Op de POC Movie Night in OPEK speelt op vrijdag 24 oktober Le bleu du caftan, een prachtige film over het geheim van een Marokkaanse q***r klerenmaker - dit event is voor mensen van kleur.
Een memorabel moment wordt ongetwijfeld Planet Fierce, een glamoureuze drag show met lokale talenten in het internationale studentenhuis Pangae op donderdag 30 oktober. Dit gratis evenement mikt onder meer op studenten en internationals.
Community evenementen
Meerdere activiteiten zijn ontstaan uit en vormgegeven door de q***r community in Leuven. In verschillende ‘festival hubs’ werden deze gratis evenementen voorbereid met vrijwilligers – een bewijs van het grote draagvlak van het Q***r Arts Festival.
Op zondag 12 oktober wordt het UniQue Regenbooghuis omgetoverd tot een heerlijk rustgevende Q***r Ascension Night, met tarot, mindfulness en een kopje thee. Poëzie, muziek en (gender)koekjes zijn er bij Space Jam Slam Caravan op zondag 26 oktober, waarbij de toeschouwers in een karavaan van OPEK naar Abdij van Keizersberg trekken.
Dinsdag 28 oktober staat in het teken van Rainbow Family Stories. In de namiddag lezen auteurs als Senne Misplon voor uit hun kinderboeken in Boekarest. ’s Avonds is er in UniQue een gesprek met ouders over de schoonheid en uitdagingen van regenbooggezinnen.
Duik in q***r geschiedenis
Wat weet u over Lady Gaga en Troye Sivan, of over Andy Warhol en Virginia Woolf? Kom uw kennis testen op de Q***r Arts Quiz op dinsdag 14 oktober in MALZ, terwijl u geniet van een (alcoholvrij) speciaalbiertje: Inschrijven kan solo of per vier.
Een klassieker op het festival is de Q***r History Walk. Op woensdagen 22 (in het Nederlands) en 29 oktober (in het Engels) neemt de enthousiaste gids David Espinel u mee op sleeptouw doorheen de onbekende LGBTI+-geschiedenis van Leuven.
Wilt u bewust(er) worden van uw eigen privilege? Schrijf u in voor de Workshop On positionality op zaterdag 25 oktober in OPEK en beweeg, teken en deel ervaringen.

After the fantastic Leuven Pride on September 27th, with more than 2.000 participants, we continue celebrating the creativity of the LGBTI+ community in October! With the second edition of the Q***r Arts Festival Leuven, our city will become the q***r capital of Flanders and far beyond this fall – it's no coincidence that our festival theme is "To the moon." After the first successful festival in 2023 (more than 1,200 visitors), we're planning no fewer than 20 events this October. Q***r Leuven is collaborating with strong partners like 30CC, STUK, Het Depot, OPEK, UniQue, and the City of Leuven. Expect a powerful program from October 10th to 31st, packed with concerts, theater, waacking dance, drag shows, debates, and parties throughout the city. We want to highlight artists from the rainbow community and plan fun activities for everyone in the community.
We're thrilled to invite you to our opening night on Friday, October 10th at STUK! We start at 7 PM with a free reception and powerful speeches in the STUKcafé. Afterwards, there's an unmissable Prince concert by Porcelain ID and Youniss, performing Purple Rain. Gentle Boys Club will bring a dazzling drag king show, there will be video art and an exhibition, and we'll close the evening with DJs straight again and Georgy Gorgeous!

Large-scale highlights
The festival opens on Friday, October 10th with a great opening night at STUK. Three weeks later, on Saturday, October 31st, we close the festival with Dead Star Disco at De Optimist: a spooky closing party with titillating performances.
At the festival, we welcome Over the Rainbow, the very first gathering of the international waacking and q***r dance community in Leuven. On Saturday, October 18th, you can enjoy dance battles in various styles and categories at Het Depot - absolutely not to be missed! On Sunday there are waacking dance workshops for beginners and advanced students, and on the kick-off Friday there are lip sync performances.
Music, film and drag
The cozy café in Het Depot welcomes Q***rs on stage for the second time, a colorful evening with talented q***r music artists who were chosen from the many entries via the VI.BE platform. At this free event on Saturday 10 October, you will discover the big music names of the future!
Film is also present with the screening of Wizard of Oz in Cinema Zed on Thursday 16 October: come and dream along with Dorothy in this technicolor film classic, supplemented with a drag performance. On Friday 24 October at the POC Movie Night, OPEK will screen Le bleu du caftan, a beautiful film about the secret of a Moroccan q***r dressmaker - this event is POC only.
A memorable moment will undoubtedly be Planet Fierce, a glamorous drag show with local talents in the international student house Pangae on Thursday 30 October. This free event is aimed at students and internationals, among others.
Community events
Several activities have emerged from and been shaped by the q***r community in Leuven. These free events were prepared with volunteers in various ‘festival hubs’ – proof of the broad support for the Q***r Arts Festival.
On Sunday 12 October, the UniQue Regenbooghuis will be transformed into a wonderfully relaxing Q***r Ascension Night, with tarot, mindfulness and a cup of tea.
Poetry, music and (gender) cookies will be available at Space Jam Slam Caravan on Sunday 26 October, where spectators will be transported in a caravan from OPEK to Keizersberg Abbey.
Tuesday, October 28th is all about Rainbow Family Stories. In the afternoon (NL), authors such as Senne Misplon will read from their children's books in Bucharest. In the evening (NL), there will be a conversation with parents in UniQue about the beauty and challenges of rainbow families.
Dive into q***r history
What do you know about Lady Gaga and Troye Sivan, or about Andy Warhol and Virginia Woolf? Come test your knowledge at the Q***r Arts Quiz on Tuesday, October 14th in MALZ, while enjoying a (non-alcoholic) craft beer: You can register solo or in groups of four.
A classic at the festival is the Q***r History Walk. On Wednesdays 22 (in Dutch) and 29 October (in English), enthusiastic guide David Espinel will take you on a journey through the unknown LGBTI+ history of Leuven.
Would you like to become (more) aware of your own privilege? Register for the Workshop On Positionality on Saturday, October 25th at OPEK and move, draw, and share experiences.
Theater and comedy
Fancy an evening full of humor? During Comedy Night (NL) at 30CC/Wagehuys on Monday 13 October, q***r comedians Dena Vahdani, Marlies Verschueren, Iris Costrop and Lassyri will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.
With Family (NL), Louis Janssens will bring a moving theater piece about chosen family in the q***r community on Tuesday 21 October at 30CC/Minnepoort. The performance, which was buried under the stars, touches a universal chord.
In the intimate library of Museum PARCUM you can enjoy a first text reading of Classical Q***rs (NL). Theatre and radio maker Johannes Wirix-Speetjens will give a sneak peek at his performance on Wednesday 15 October, which will be seen at 30CC in spring 2026.
