Cooltsalon

Cooltsalon Cooltsalon is: curator, network, exposure platform, zinester. Born in Sofia, operating worldwide
(5)

Cooltsalon was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2014 with a series of “1-week-only” site-specific exhibitions. It's currently international, operating on 3 levels: curator, network and exposure platform. Over the years, Cooltsalon’s mission has grown into giving exposure to individual voices hidden behind the collective city life. These opportunities were presented through a variety of events – from gui

ded walks to meet local creative businesses to site-specific exhibitions with international artists. On 12 May 2018 Cooltsalon launched its very first “physical asset” – the ‘Cooltzine’ zine – a publication curated for international, visual dialogue between creative practitioners. The zine carries on the message of re-discovering the city, re-connecting to it and each other as urban dwellers, and is something tangible that can be collected, shared and referenced at any time. Details of our previous projects and current work, can be found at cooltsalon.com

Dearest friends, collaborators, supporters and followers: Cooltsalon is on hiatus until further notice. The decision didn't come easy but it is a natural step in light of the personal (to the founders) impact of russia's brutal escalation of the war against Ukraine this year. Some of the founders' relatives had to flee, but thankfully are safe in another country, some are still there and not a day goes by without a worry for their lives. We delivered our planned projects for 2022 regardless the heavy psychological toll, including the collaborative zine Cooltzine vol.5 - and it was a respite to have those projects, believing in shared creativity for the good in this world - but we need to take a pause.

We hope to have this time to not only take care of the team's wellbeing, but also to assess and figure out what Cooltsalon could be going forward.
We always have and always will invest in collaboration and co-creation, and we want to continue making meaningful, shared projects, nurturing active urban dwellers participation and positive impact. At this point, however, we need to reevaluate available curatorial tools, topics and frameworks, to find those that we can all get behind.

We still want to programme events, produce works and lift up voices previously unheard. We still plan to do so, but in the meantime we hope the Cooltsalon network can use this space as a "social networking" hub - please continue to share your ideas and updates with us and amongst each other. We want to continue having the conversations, but we need some time to action something new.

While we're on pause, you can also reach out to us privately via [email protected]

This not a goodbye, but "until next time" ✊

New chapter in Luca Serasini & project for capturing the sound of the universe!
🗓️ 24 September - Exhibition Opening: “La geometria del tempo”, curated by Eleonora Raspi, will showcase new artworks about the geometrical construction of the land art, a multichannel video installation made with sound artist Massimo Magrini.
🗓️ 8 October - Reveal of land art installation in the outdoor space of EGO & the Virgo Collaboration observatory: "In ascolto del cosmo", curated by Eleonora Raspi, Vincenzo Napolano, Valerio Boschi. Based on last year's trials and prototypes, Luca & Massimo's installation is set to bring Virgo's gravitational waves to a visible and perceptible dimension.

The European Gravitational Observatory (EGO), situated in the countryside near Pisa in Italy, is the home of the Virgo detector - a large interferometer designed to detect gravitational waves predicted by the general theory of relativity. Luca's long-running project is inspired by Virgo's ability to "listen" to the faint cosmic signals generated millions of light years from the Earth and, at the same time, to monitor the signals coming from its immediate surroundings. The project culminates in a large-scale interactive installation which aims to recreate the figure of the "interference fringes", the signal of light through which gravitational waves reveal themselves and take a 'visible' form.
