Congratulations Marvin Johnson on being awarded Swimmer of the Year!

BAHAMIAN MARVIN JOHNSON AWARDED SWIMMER OF THE YEAR

Bahamian Junior standout Marvin Johnson was named the swimmer of the Year by Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association at the recent State Champs. The meet which ran from February 10 to 11 saw him recording state records in the 50 yard freestyle at 19.87 and 100 yard freestyle at 43.60.
Marvin dubbed "Marvelous " by swimming fans in Jamaica has set a standard for junior swimmers in his country and the region . He can also be ranked among the fastest Bahamian swimmers of all time. In the 50 yard freestyle he is the fourth fastest in Bahamian history. The list headed by the standard bearer for 242 Lamar "Cool Ruler" Taylor with his blast recently of 19.10.Next is is Olympic sprint pioneer Allan Murray with his best of 19.57. Third is long course record holder Olympian Elvis Burrows with his swift time of 19.83.

The list is much shorter in the 100 yard freestyle as only Taylor has ever swum faster than Johnson with his recent sub 43 performance of 42.81.

What Johnson has done is given credence to the phrase " No Limits". He along with arguably the deepest 15-17 fields ever promises one of the the most exciting CARIFTA Championships in Curaçao this April 6-12. In Barbados last year he tied with Trinidad and Tobago's star Nikoli Blackman for 50 metre Gold in 23.31. In the 100 metre freestyle he won the Bronze in a time of 52.16 behind the Team TTO's Twin Towers of Blackman and Zarek Wilson.
This year the Championship records in the 2013 100 metre freestyle of 50.67 by Team TTO Olympian Dylan Carter and the 2018 50 metre freestyle mark by Bahamian Olympian Izaak of 23.25 should not survive. Others looking to challenge include Marvin's Jamaican team mate Nelson Denny and Cayman Islands star James Allison with their recent showings .
Marvin will be looking to head the senior CARIFTA sprint field which could see the first medal podium under 51 seconds in the 100 metres and sub 23 for the 50 metres.

KEY WEST, FL, February 2023— Bahamian swimmer Ricardo Jolly is making strides as a member of The College of the Florida Keys (CFK)Tuga swim team as they excelled at the Stanton C. Craigie Memorial Invite February 8, 2023, with all swimmers achieving personal best times.

The three-day meet was hosted by Indian River State College in Fort Pierce February 3- 5. The swim meet provided another opportunity for the swimmers to achieve times to qualify them to compete at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Swimming and Diving Championship set to take place in March 2023 in Erie, New York. Jolly qualified for the 50-yard butterfly and bettered his qualifying times in the 100-yard Individual Medley, and the 100-yard breaststroke. The team traveled to West Palm Beach on December 3 to participate in the Lake Lytal Lightning’s Holiday Sprint Invitational.

The event presented opportunities for the athletes to gain competitive experience and to achieve official times required to again qualify to swim in the NJCAA Championships where Jolly achieved four personal best times, a performance that qualified him for nationals in the 50 freestyle, 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, and 100 Individual Medley.

He also qualified for nationals the 200-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard Freestyle during a virtual event at the college. The Tugas, led by Coach Lori Bosco, leaves Key West on February 27th to travel to Buffalo, New York to compete in the NJCAA national championship March 1- 4, 2023
