After 2 years of designing florals for our beloved wedding couples and corporate events, we are announcing with heavy hearts that Lizi + Fern Floral Design Studio will be closing our doors as of May 7th.

When we (Jess + Vivi) started our small company, we had big dreams of pursuing our passion for design by working with one of the things we shared a love for, flowers! With our combined experience in the event industry, we made it happen! Some of our accomplishments that should not go unrecognized were collaborative editorial shoots, magazine features, and most importantly, being able to provide botanical artistry to some pretty wonderful clients!

Diving into the unknown of starting up a company in the middle of a pandemic, having a baby, and possibly moving province didn’t go without its hardships, yet we had a lot of fun, we have learned a ton, met so many amazing clients and vendors, and we have gained so much more experience than we thought possible! With that said, we wanted to thank our clients for your support for our small business and for choosing us to be your florist! We love you all! 💕

If you do have any questions, feel free to ask! Although this is the end of our chapter, the pages are still turning! We both remain in the event industry where Vivi will be working at All Occasions Decor and Jess continues to work at Bespoke Decor.

A couple weeks ago we were taking in the last little bit of summer before wrapping ourselves in a woolly and sipping on pumpkin spice. It is crazy how fast seasons can turn, especially seen while working weddings! Is it nuts to say that working outside in the beating sun and spraying flowers to keep them hydrated will be missed!?

We pray for good weather for all our couples on their wedding day but sometimes it is so hard to predict! Preparing for a plan B option is always a good idea and also provides a sense of relief so the day is taken care of, no matter what the weather brings! ☀️⛈️🌈💨

We set up this white frame arch in some windy weather to start but luckily it cleared up as the day went on. 🤗 No plan B needed! The ceremony could not have been more beautiful!

We have to admit, these were the nicest vendela roses we have worked with thus far. They opened beautifully and reflexed quite easily!

We put a lot of work into treating roses to ensure they are looking their best!
Here are some of the basic steps:
Step 1: Inspect every rose in every bunch by getting rid of any mushy heads, bruised petals, or broken stems.
Step 2: Carefully strip leaves and thorns from each stem.
Step 3: Cut bunches of stems on a diagonal and place in water to hydrate. *Sometimes we use warm water to allow for roses to open*.
Step 4: After hydrated, remove guard petals.
Optional Step 5: Reflex petals by using thumb and finger and/or turn rose upside down and spin from the stem to fan our the petals.
Step 6: Recut and arrange.

Incorporating peach and orange dahlias from a local boutique flower farm, made us so happy! The colours all came together perfectly for S + D's beautiful wedding this past weekend 🤗.

🌸 Who doesn't love pastels this year?! Can't get enough of these happy blooms for M + B's summer wedding. Pastel ribbons to match the bridesmaid dresses were so much fun! All the best to our newly weds!!! 🌸
