I came across this quote this morning and it really struck a cord. “I’m going to make everything around me beautiful- that will be my life” -Elsie de Wolfe
Coming from an art background from adolescence to university, I always felt the need for my art to be grungy, ugly, and intense for it to have a meaningful purpose. I don’t know why. But I struggled with the notion that beauty in art was just as important. Which is just bizarre. Some of my favorite artistic movements are so beautiful (Monet anyone?🥹) .
But non the less, I still struggle with this concept today and I still have no answers. Maybe it’s the Romantic in me (not in the coupling sense, but in the 18th century ideals).
While I still can’t understand these feelings, gardening has helped me loosen the tangled strands. A rose can be beautiful and requires no other explanation. A vegetable garden can be wild but immensely colorful.
The plots and beds are now my canvas and I get to create everyday. Something I’m so grateful for.
So if you’ve read this far, here’s my thought for today: Things can be beautiful while meaningful. 💭

Been awhile ✨
Played with some flowers yesterday and it felt good 😊 it’s been a busier summer than I anticipated, but filled with lots of great family moments.
If you’d like the opportunity to be gifted a bouquet tomorrow, I’ll choose one follower who comments on this reel. Tell me how your summer went, or what you grew this year.

A little #asmr in the garden. 😮💨 Looking at the forecast ahead and feeling thankful this is the last blustery and rainy day.
Also super thankful that our #peonyseason is later up on the mountain. If they had bloomed earlier, the wind and rain would have surely wiped them out quickly. BUT we have so many buds just waiting for the warmer temperatures and sun. I’m expecting some major color by the weekend!! ✨
If you would like to purchase a peony bouquet, we will be opening up orders next week. 💐
Any questions about our peonies? Drop them in the comments

I hope you find rest today in this much needed rainy day.
Anyone else feel extra creative on a day like this? ✨I find my best ideas and daydreaming emerge with a good cup of coffee + a warm blanket + the sound of rain on the roof.
I’m using this day to rest from the non stop planting that’s been going on (I can’t stop thinking about all the little new plants soaking up the moisture and goodness) 😌 I also thought it would be a good time to answer any questions about us + our gardens🌿 + garden tips 💭 + our event with @tourismabbotsford this June 8th 🍷+ or how our house build 🏡 is coming along. So if you have a question, drop it here or in our story question box. Oh, it’s also a good day to catch up on the @the_rhs Garden Show this year. Great place to find tips + garden trends + inspiration.
Have a wonderful restful Tuesday garden friends.

PRUNING FRUIT TREES
Did you add a fruit tree to your garden this spring? Then this post is for you 🍑🌳👇 don’t forget to hit the save button to reference it for next spring
You can also check out our pruning video in our TIPS highlight ✨
- prune when buds are ripe 🌸, but before they are open (if you missed it, you can still prune but you will be cutting off some blooms & fruit)
- prune heavily the first three years (to knee, to mid thigh, to waist) 📏
- prune out any diseased or broken branches along with any that crosses another branch) ☠️
- keep a strong central leader, except for stone fruit which needs an open canopy ☂️ (think of an upside down umbrella)
- prune to the leaf node that is growing in the direction you want the branch to grow 🌿(cut at an angle and close to the node)
- use sharp pruners! And a saw for anything wider than your pinky ✂️
- remember, you want good airflow to reduce disease 💕
Pretend your Michalangelo and treat your #fruittree as a prized sculpture. It will thank you for years to come.

DIY REPURPOSED PEONY CAGES
How I saved hundreds by reusing garden waste 💰👩🌾
If you have a little bit of time to spend under the welcomed spring sun, then this easy and practically FREE tutorial will help keep your peonies upright throughout the season.
Not only are peony support cages a must, they can add winter interest when the plant is hibernating unground over winter.
WHY DO YOU NEED SUPPORT FOR PEONIES? 🌸
- their heavy blooms can completely collapse the plant during bloom
- this can create disease, wasted and bruised blooms, and an unappealing design
But metal support cages can be expensive, especially if you’re growing on a large scale. To offset this cost, I created my own Repurposed Peony Cages with Dollar Store BBQ Squewers and last season’s Grape Vines.
HOW TO:
- save last season’s grape vines, willow or other pliable branches and vines (keeping them in the elements over winter allowed the grape vines to stay pliable)
- stake three extra large BBQ Squewers surrounding your peony plant
- create two rings (one slightly bigger than the other) with twine and your branches, places the larger one around six inches off the ground wrapping around the Squewers. We used our @barebonesliving Pruners for clean and quick cuts. You can shop our pruner in our posts tagged products.
- take two extra long branches to create arches covering your plant
- place the smaller ring over top and secure branches in place with twine
Don’t be too fussy on making this perfect. This is meant to give your garden an organic and whimsical effect. Have fun with it!
2024 INSIGHT ✨Gardens are better with cats 😻 😋
Looking forward to gardening along side this sweet fellow. Garfield is my little buddy, and you’ll always find him tagging along for walks or keeping me company while I tend to the garden.
2023 had lots of challenges and success, and I can’t wait to continue on this journey with last years knowledge in mind. I wish I could say 2024 has had only successes, but we just had a major garden fail/loss that I’m still not over 😭🦌
If your a garden enthusiast or simply just love to admire them, drop a question for us that you’d love some insight on for the 2024 growing season 🤗 Or simply say hello, it’s been a few months 😂
