Make a Child's Christmas Wish Come True !

This holiday season, you can bring joy to a child in need by supporting the Baddeck Lions Club Christmas Children's Wish Project.

Last year, thanks to generous donors like you, more than 65 children in our community had their Christmas wish come true and 34 families were provided with groceries and a Christmas dinner with "all the trimmings."

We invite you to take part in this worthy annual project by donating a gift or money. Collection boxes for (unwrapped) gifts have been setup at Victoria Farmers Co-Op Ltd., Baddeck Home Hardware, Needs Convenience Store in Baddeck and East Coast Credit Union (Baddeck Branch)

Cash donations are especially helpful because our primary goal is to purchase each child's main gift request when possible. Cash donations can be made by sending e-transfer to:

[email protected]

*Please indicate the donation is for the Christmas Children's Wish Project in the memo of the transfer if you would like your gift to be used on this project.

Cash donations can also be given in person to Lion Ford Green (902-295-3215) or Lion Bobby Buchanan (902-295-2185)

Should we receive more money than needed to meet all Christmas requests, the spirit of Christmas giving will be continued into the new year with assistance to worthy local charitable causes to make sure that all money received through your generosity is used in the year it is donated. Under no circumstances will we provide money; only requested items, such as clothing or perishable food items.

Ryan MacNeil grew up in a musical environment in Sydney Mines. After spending a number of years recording and touring with Slàinte Mhath—a popular Cape Breton-based Celtic fusion band—Ryan and his brother Boyd joined their siblings in The Barra MacNeils. Although best-known for his innovative piano accompaniment, Ryan also plays percussion, Uilleann pipes, tin whistle, bodhran, and step dances.

Cape Breton's very own singer-songwriter and fiddler, Rose Morrison, adds a unique touch of her musical prowess to this extraordinary collaboration. With her heartfelt original compositions and mastery of the fiddle, Rose brings a distinct flavor of Cape Breton's rich musical heritage to the stage. Prepare to be captivated by her artistry as she seamlessly blends tradition and innovation, taking you on a musical voyage along the banks of the Baddeck River.

The Once is coming to Big Baddeck! ✨
Thursday, July 25th at 7:30pm

A modern indie folk trio from Newfoundland, The Once have collected a trio of Canadian Folk Music Awards, numerous ECMA awards, and was named Artist of the Year by the Newfoundland & Labrador Arts Council. They have earned not one, but two JUNO nominations for Roots Album of the Year and continue to take their music around the world.

With the release of 2024’s Out Here, The Once have delivered a thoughtful and playful assembly of songs mingling their musical roots from Newfoundland along with folk, bluegrass, country, Americana, and modern indie rock. Members Geraldine Hollett, Andrew Dale, and Phil Churchill have created a sound representative of their home province of Newfoundland while pushing the boundaries on the great Canadian songbook with their soothing vocal harmony and acoustically rich core.

Lyrically, The Once’s newest collection of songs encompass an arresting sense of loss with the belief that the good can be found in all people, and a desire to bring it out here for everyone to enjoy. A ray of hope in a confusing time. A port in a storm. A provocation with a grin.

This material is soaked with the poetic charm and sunny sadness of the trio’s collective disposition. Written across Newfoundland and recorded in the band’s GingerBeard House studio the band took their time creating this record. “Sometimes music takes a while to flow”, Geraldine Hollett explains. “If you don’t panic and instead surround yourself with people who love you that you can trust, magic can happen.”
