3 Years ago, almost to the day, we looked through the windows of 132 Penetang Street for the first time. It wasn’t pretty, it needed A LOT of work but we had a vision and knew it was what the community needed…and truthfully, it was also what we needed.

Angela and I are very proud of all that we have accomplished since that day, the relationships we have built and everything we have been able to support during the last few years. Unfortunately, a brick and mortar location for us at this point just doesn’t work anymore. We’ve fought hard to keep it, reinventing ourselves multiple times and even adding another part of the business. () We were only open 4 months before the first lock down and we were determined covid wouldn’t stop us…and it didn’t stop us, but we have realized how tired we are from it and that we have families that need us more than ever. We’ve been putting so much of our time and energy (and money) into keeping the doors open because we wanted it so much for the community, but at this point we need to do what’s best for us.

It’s taken us almost two weeks to post this. There was so much we wanted to say, but it’s been hard to put all our thoughts/feelings into just a few paragraphs. What we realized is that it didn’t really matter what we said here, if you know us, you know how we feel. This isn’t easy, we love you all so much and will miss seeing you regularly.

Thank you all for choosing to the last few years and supporting our dream of bringing people together. We will Sonder with you again, just not at 132 Penetang Street.

From the very beginning, providing an experience with our markets has always been important….and for us, the music has played a key role in that. There’s a magic that comes with it, we feel it every time.

As we continue to evolve, our focus remains on strategic collaborations that will allow us to provide these experiences to both you(the community)and our vendors.

It is with great pleasure, that we announce a collaboration that is absolutely about the music and supporting all things local. We will be curating our own SONDER Market Artisan Village for this years Troubadour Festival

You’ll be able to Friday, June 24th and Saturday, June 25th and enjoy the music of Dwayne Gretzky Natalie MacMaster and many others!

There will be both two day and single day vendor opportunities.

Emails will be sent out tomorrow with all the details (for both the Troubadour Festival and the Baycats Market) to those that have already expressed an interest of being a vendor at upcoming markets….and if you haven’t yet, right now would be a good time. 🙂

We have some new business news!

The idea we had almost 22 years ago, well we’re doing it…because why not at this point!

We were 18 and 23 when we first talked about it. (For real) It was within months of first becoming friends….and we lived in the East End at that time. We knew the concept and the vibe we wanted and nothing has changed. We’re doing exactly what we talked about all those years ago.

You will have to bear with us, we won’t have everything set up exactly how we’d like it right away, but April 29th we will be opening phase 1 of (Follow us on IG)

We will be open Wednesday-Friday at our same location 132 Penetang Street, 10am-3pm for the first month and then consider adding more days/hours after that.

We will be offering a set menu and weekly specials. Sandwiches, salads, treats, coffee, specialty drinks, etc. Everything fresh and made to order.

Catering will also be available.

Our concept is a to-go style, with a European vibe. We will also be working with local small businesses to have a little market section of goods for sale and as always, we will continue to adapt and evolve as we go because that’s just how we roll!

will continue Thursday and Friday nights, so don’t worry.

And as of May 15th we will begin taking on studio rentals again Saturday-Monday for photography, meetings and workshops.
*We will no longer be accepting bookings for outside events.

(SONDER Studio + Events) will continue, but we are rebranding and shifting that business to focus on our markets.

2 years of a pandemic has changed many things for us, but in the end it’s been an opportunity for us to strengthen our friendship and grow our business(es) and for that we’re grateful.

Guess where you can in July?!

No big deal really….actually, just kidding! It really is a BIG deal! We’ve been invited to host a special edition of the SONDER Market at a Barrie Baycats game this summer! That’s right friends, picture a warm summer night….40+ vendors, music and a ballgame!!

July 17th, mark it down on your calendars. You won’t want to miss this epic collaboration!

We will have more details in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

For the past 6 months we had been driving around Barrie looking for a location that could possibly work as a new home for our beloved market, and possibly some other things.

We had come to the realization that the market was out growing our little corner at 132 Penetang Street and that if we were to continue to grow and support our community they way we wanted, we needed to make a move.

However. The “feeling” of a space, the vibe if you will, is so important to us….and this isn’t easy to just find anywhere. We realize, it’s not just about the space, it’s also about the people, but we feel the right space is what really helps to attracts the right people.

After 6 months of us driving around, hours scouring the internet, many MANY emails and phone calls, meetings and one deal we thought we had that fell through, we persisted and over breakfast and a catch up with a friend, we found ourselves rebranding the [East End] Shop Local Market to the SONDER MARKET and a new home for it downtown in a space that made us ‘feel’ really good, the . It was exactly the right space and Thursday night it absolutely brought the right people! 321 of them to be exact.

321 people(!) walked through the doors and choose to and support their friends and their community. Standing back, watching the smiles on peoples faces, listening to the laughter and the music, knowing that we’ve created this community within the community is a pretty special feeling. A feeling we don’t take for granted, ever. We feel privileged to have so many of you believe in us, support us and show us so much kindness and love.

We’ve evolved again, it’s what we seem to do best. And we’re not done. We will evolve and adapt as many times as it takes to continue doing what we love because we love all of you and this city so damn much.

We’ve got more news coming next week actually, some more ‘adapting’ has been going on, but for now we’ve only got one more thing to say….

When we started our market, it was a way for us to support and connect with local small businesses. It was also a way for us to create an experience for the community by bringing people together, sharing music and what always seems like a little bit of magic.

We would have loved to have been able to continue on with the markets at our location but we felt we had out grown our space here for a few reasons and that is why we made the decision to look for alternative options. Our market has become like family, we love all of you so much and always want the best for you.

So after months of meetings, site visits, brainstorming, late nights, changes of plans, even more meetings and maybe a glass (or two) of wine, the day has finally arrived for us to announce what’s next for our market, a concept that will help us continue on with all that’s important to us.

We are very happy to finally be able to share with you, that our next market will be Thursday, March 31st from 6-9pm and it will be located at 22 Dunlop Street East, (otherwise known as Dunlop Street Diner )with special musical guests Olivia Murphy, B.Knox and DJ KC!

We have partnered up with our friends downtown to bring you what we feel will be a more elevated experience offering a bar and a ‘Market Menu’ with plans to expand within the next few months that include additional vendor spots at Donaleighs Irish Public House and during the warmer months, the patio at North Country

anyone? It’s going to be a thing!

We will be rebranding the market from the [East End] Shop Local Market to, ‘The [Sonder] Market’ and we are currently working on a new website that will promote our vendors, musicians and everything market related.

We cannot wait to see all our faces again soon! It’s been way too long. We look forward to continuing on with our magical evenings, filled with music and all of you.

As some of you already know, we are currently not taking any bookings for the studio right now…but we decided it was time to make that announcement more official and let you know why.

After being made to close and then reopen so many times in the past two years, working around restrictions and mandates and trying to always adapt and keep our sanity, it’s finally taken it’s toll.

We’re exhausted. Mentally and also emotionally. We need a change, something to excite us again and challenge us in a different way. In a good way. In a way that feeds our soul.

We have spent the last couple months brainstorming. We’ve decided it’s time to take more seriously and want to expand that. is outgrowing our parking lot, so we’re working on plans that allow us to let us do more with that business AND we still have many ideas for Sonder we’re working on. Including our Market. There will still be markets! However, until we make a final decision on what that’s going to look like, we both feel it’s not right to take on bookings at the moment because we don’t want to have commitments on our calendar that could prevent us from doing something. If there’s one thing about Ang and I, it’s that you can never be too sure what we’ll come up with next….truthfully, we still surprise ourselves.

We’re also open to collaborative ideas! We love our community of friends and value the connections we have. So, if you’ve got something that you think could be fun, send us a DM. We’re listening.
