Wassail is an early-English toast to good health often associated with a lively celebration. In thid case, it also means a cider party! Bowen Arrow Trading Company has just launched itself on Bowen Island. We design, create and curate small cottage furnishings and decor ~ and Bowen centric gifts. We like to use locally forged alder & maple, pallet wood and recycled materials for most of the products we build. Watch for our official opening in 2025.

🌟Bowen Islands kick off to the holiday season starts this weekend! Friday night is the annual Ladies Madrigal Christmas concert, Saturday from 10am to 2pm is the Little Red Church Christmas Craft Fair, at 5 pm Family Place Festival of Trees is having a Tippi Blessing, at 5:30 there will be carol singing with Cates Hill Chapel in front of Doc Morgan’s while we wait for Santa’s arrival, followed by a Community Holiday Party at the Hearth (mulled wine, hot apple cider & home made sweets). On Saturday night Tippys Cookhouse will be serving up hot chocolate and mini donuts for the kids and their take out counter will be open for a variety of savory & sweet foods you can grab and go. On Sunday the BICS Christmas Craft Show starts at 10 am and the Rivendell Lodge has an open house from 2 pm to 5 pm, they will be serving warm beverages and goodies … and remember Sunday December 1st is the last day of Cove House’ Christmas Toy Drive. Thank you Bowen Island!

We are so excited by the enthusiasm we’ve seen from the community this year. There have been numerous donations to the Light Up Bowen GoFundMe campaign and many volunteers have stepped up to help with the event.

The Light Up Bowen team is in need of a LOT of new lights this year. Since 2021 over 300 strings of Christmas lights have stopped working. We would like to upgrade ALL the lights to commercial-grade.

We hope to raise $15,000 through the gofundme campaign and business donations. That will allow us to purchase enough commercial lights to decorate the Cove, replace the string lights on some of the displays and to cover the expenses for the Santa parade and community Holiday party at the Hearth. The plan is for this investment to considerably lower future Light Up Bowen expenses.

Sweet wedding!

Last weekend we celebrated our sweet Matt. He passed away peacefully after a long, hard fought battle with brain cancer. We will miss him ~ his smile, the twinkle in his eyes and his most incredible positive nature, even at the toughest of times. Thankfully Matt had the best and most compassionate doctors, and staff at North Shore Hospice. Most importantly Matt has his earth angel, Moira, who supported him fiercely through the hardest of times. God bless you Moira🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

🎃PumpkinFest! Saturday October 19th, 2024 at Island Pacific School ~ 2-4pm rain or shine! IPS is inviting the ENTIRE community to come out and celebrate FALL 🍂 at the Colin Ruloff Community Field House. This fun-filled event is perfect for all ages with pumpkin carving, games, and hot chocolate to keep everyone cozy. Pumpkins are just $10 each! Bring your friends, neighbours and family to this community event. It’s a wonderful opportunity to socialize and get your Halloween pumpkins ready. More event details to follow.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Bowen Island Community Foundation Helping Hands Fund.

I haven’t posted as late on instagram because I’ve been visiting regularly with my second mom, Maria, in her long term care home, in Victoria. She was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia this past winter and has declined rapidly. It’s a devastating disease that I’m just learning about.
I never had experience caring for someone with dementia now I do. I know the impact that dementia can have on those living with this condition, their family members and caregivers. Dementia has a significant and growing impact in Canada. Several years ago the Public Health Agency of Canada produced a dementia strategy for Canada.
“This strategy is not just for those living with or caring for someone with dementia. It is a strategy for all Canadians. There is a growing body of evidence that healthy living is key to preventing dementia. Whether as a caregiver to a family member or friend, as a person living with dementia or in interactions at work or community involvement, many of us will encounter dementia at some point in our daily lives.”

Devon and Darraghs’ beautiful wedding celebrated at the Ark on Bowen Island ~ with close family and friends staying with them at this incredible Airbnb. Dinner was prepared and served by Boy with a Knife caterers. The weather was perfect. It poured and poured for days before ~ then the clouds parted. Must be the luck of the Irish! 🍀
