I see everyone doing these re-introduction posts online so I figured I’d give it a try…😊
Hey there! I’m Kayla, owner of and here’s a bit about me…
🇯🇲 I’m originally from Jamaica- my family immigrated to Canada when I was 7.
🏡I met my husband when I was working part time as a bartender and we’ve been together for 15 years. We started our family in Toronto and we have 2 daughters here and one in heaven.
🪻16 years ago I was working in a garden centre, freshly dropped out of University 😅 I started spending more and more time in the flower shop because I just LOVED being there, after a few months the owner told me if I was willing to go get my floral certification with then I could take over the flower shop, so I did!
✂️ I went on to freelance for event companies, work in floral wholesale and manage other shops- always knowing that entrepreneurship was my goal.
🌿I launched Thistle and Birch in 2016 after moving to Barrie, and because I didn’t know many people there I started teaching floral workshops, which I contribute to a lot of my initial business growth.
🎓I did end up going back to school at 31 and got my diploma from in Advertising & Marketing Communications.
💕I love Jesus, Soca music, Reading, Chinese food, camping and floating around the pool/lakes all summer long.
I am so appreciative for how this page has grown and to all of you who take the time to engage with it!

I have grown to really enjoy the winter season, especially as a business owner. This is my time to relax and reflect and in that posture it's amazing how many ideas and innovations naturally come to mind.
That's the thing about entrepreneurship, it's a growth game, and it's about adjusting our practices and habits with the natural rhythms of work and life.
So for now, I'll continue to post Wedding throwbacks 😉 while I take comfort in the snowy wonderland that is all around ❄️☃️maw

Beautiful bouquets for these beautiful ladies!!! 😍❤️
I met while I was sitting in a dentist chair getting my teeth cleaned 😂 She was so fun & sweet and I was THRILLED when she booked me as her Wedding florist.
Business is funny like that, you never know when you’re going to meet someone that you’ll end up working with- and I just love how fate like this unfolds! 💍💒

Back from vacation and feeling good!
The fam and I just spent a couple weeks in Jamaica visiting with family and enjoying the beach🏖️🇯🇲
It was so beautiful and I’m extremely grateful for this time away!
We have consultations scheduled for 2024 AND 2025 Weddings in the upcoming weeks 🙌 and so it’s time to finish the year strong and work on setting those New Year goals.

Designing for my family and friends has to be one of my greatest joys as a floral designer.🥰
and I met 15+ years ago at our Garden Centre job .

BIG NEWS!!! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
We have been pretty MIA on here recently and that's because...we're moving! 😲🏡🥂
As most of you know we have been in Barrie for the past 6 years and we love it here.
But...our plan was always to move a little more north and this is the year that we make that move.🙌
This June Thistle & Birch will be moving to Bracebridge and we are so excited!
Lately we have put a hold on booking future weddings because we weren't quite sure where we'd end up and although this move will not impact our existing clients & weddings for 2022/2023, moving forward we will be focusing more on just working within Simcoe & Muskoka.
We will definetly be sharing this transition with all of you, it's been a wild ride already but we are up for the challenge. 💕💯

Thistle and Birch is an Event Floral Studio specializing in weddings. We are moving from Barrie to Bracebridge this Spring and we are currently looking to hire 2 freelance Florists to work during the wedding season from June- October. 🌻🌿

This position requires availability from Thursday- Saturday weekly (Calendar sent out in advance), and will be approximately 10-20 hours a week. Weekday, evening & weekend work.

We are flexible and able to work around current work schedules as long as their communicated in advance.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of design experience and 3+ years of Wedding floral experience. Must have a great work ethic, eye for detail, a love of weddings, excellent verbal communication skills and a positive demeanour.

Job Description:
•Processing Flower Shipments
•Cleaning Pails & Tools
•Arranging & Packing Bouquets, Corsages, Boutonnieres, Centerpieces, Arbors, Large arrangements, garlands, etc.
•Ability to design from photo/ pinterest inspiration
•On Site Set-Up (travel with the team on Day of) and occasional tear down
•Work both in-studio and on site, including outdoors.

*Must be comfortable occasionally working on a ladder.

It's always an adjustment going from a hectic wedding season to a quiet autumn. 🍂🥰
