You are invited to the sixteenth Avenues: Exploring Band and Jazz Methods workshop taking place at the Brandon University School of Music on Monday August 25th and Tuesday August 26th, 2025. Music educators have the chance to gather, communicate, and collaborate at Brandon University. In addition to presentations and round-table discussions, the two days include active participation, conducting activities, personalized instruction, and informal gatherings.

The cost for educators is $150 and $80 for university students, 2025 grads, and retired music teachers for the two-day conference.

Internationally renowned School of Music alumna, Elin Rombo (soprano) returns to Brandon University for a recital performance alongside longtime collaborator and BU faculty, Sharon Rogers (piano). Swedish soprano Elin Rombo’s unique voice and intelligent interpretations have won acclaim in Europe’s great opera houses. Rombo and Rogers who have enjoyed a collaborative partnership since the 90s will perform a program of songs and arias.

Acclaimed trombonist and CBC host Tom Allen comes to the Lorne Watson stage to present "JS Bach’s Long Walk Home". Described as a coming-of-age odyssey of music, adventure and romance, the show tells the story of a young Johann Sebastian Bach on a 400 km trek that would mark a turning point in his life.

THIS WEEKEND - The 15th anniversary of the Brandon University Clarinet Festival! We are celebrating this anniversary by featuring an incredible line-up of guest artists, including: Rachel Yoder, Wonkak Kim, and Michael Dassios. The festival features BU faculty Callie Siverson and former BU faculty Kyung Kim and Victoria Sparks. We welcome back BU alum and guest conductor Justine Burke who will lead the festival clarinet choir. The BU Clarinet Choir and festival host Cathy Wood will also be performing.

Known for pushing the boundaries of sound, visuals and technology, Fitzell blends live electronics and acoustic instruments to create transformative textures, while Sandred integrates music with AI, real-time visuals, offering interactive, immersive environments. Brandon University Pro Series is thrilled to host Winnipeg’s premier male a ca****la quintet, Proximus 5, on their Holiday Tour. Renowned for their spine-tingling harmonies and exquisite vocal arrangements, these seasoned singers promise an unforgettable evening. The program will feature a festive mix of traditional carols and contemporary holiday compositions, all beautifully arranged to highlight the ensemble’s dynamic vocal prowess. Proximus will be joined by BU’s brand-new Men’s Chamber Ensemble who will be singing some holiday favourites of their own. Recognised as one of the most promising voices on the European jazz scene, Carlo Muscat’s reputation as a saxophonist, composer, and bandleader has flourished through collaborations with numerous outstanding European musicians including Tony Tixier, Philippe Maniez, Mátyás Szandai, Mauro Gargano and Sandro Zerafa. An inventive improviser overtly embracing freedom of interpretation and a willingness to explore new musical territories, Muscat’s discography now includes seven albums as a leader and numerous contributions as a sideman.
Originally from Malta, Carlo is currently based in Kyiv, Ukraine, and has been the co-owner and director of the music venue and bar Storeroom, located in Ta’ Xbiex (Malta), since 2019. His 7th album, The Body Is Only Light, was recorded in Kyiv in March 2024, and is set to be released on October 25th 2024 on the American label ears&eyes Records.
