What started as a small group of young Polish Canadian dancers, has over the past 17 years grown into a vibrant group of over 40 dancers of ages 10 and over, with zest for dance, Polish Culture and fun! Krakusy today comprises of two groups, where both boys and girls come together to have fun, learn about their Motherland through dance and song, gain strength and flexibility and most of all - form lasting friendships! Through careful and dedicated instruction, Krakusy are able to bring a smile to their audiences in both Polish and Canadian circles. Showcasing beautiful costumes made in Poland, and sporting great dance technique and finesse, the children and youth are proud to present their Polish heritage through dances such as: Krakowiak, Spisz, Slask, Kaszuby, Polki Warszawskie and even a fun “Cowboy Dance”. From slow, melancholic steps to fast paced turns and tricks, Krakusy are growing in joy, strength and pride.
In the summer of 2018, Krakusy proudly represented Calgary and Canada in an International Children’s Festival in Poland. A festival, which only takes place every 3 years, brings together children and youth from all over the world to showcase and celebrate their heritage together. Iwonicz Zdroj - a mountainside town where the festival is held comes alive with all the song and joy from over 400 young Polish dancers! We made unforgettable memories and new friendships that will likely last a long time!
We have now started our 2018-2019 season and it has been a busy one so far! We welcomed new members to our group and have performed several times during important celebrations in the Polish Community in Calgary: 50th Anniversary of our Parish, Centennial of the Polish Independence, and the 11 of November celebrations, to name the few. We have also grown our instructor team, and have began working on new choreographies.
Come see us dance - we promise you an unforgettable experience!
