Where your top 4 of 5 contests this year count. Alberta Cup recognizes each meat category along with the overall winner. Let's finish the 2024 season strong.

I huge Thank You to all the volunteers that helped out at the BBQ on the Bow Society Casino. We needed to fill 36 positions on Sunday and Monday this week. This is our largest fundraiser that keeps our event going over the years and we are celebrating 33 years and counting. A special thanks to the folks that took on two shifts and persevered with very little sleep.

Prairie Dog on the Bow originated as a competitor led contest, inspired by the origins of barbecue, where cooks are challenged to make something delicious from less desirable cuts of meat.

In this meat supplied contest, teams will be given 2 whole chickens with thighs and drumsticks removed, 2 racks of backribs, 2 whole pork shoulders and a single AA brisket. With all teams cooking the same meats and trimming on-site, your true Pitmaster skills will be revealed.

Due to logistical constraints, teams competing in Prairie Dog on the Bow will be required to register and cook BBQ on the Bow. Teams are able to compete only in BBQ on the Bow if they choose. Remember to bring your own meat for BBQ on the Bow.

Prairie Dog on the Bow and BBQ on the Bow registration will be open soon for this Labour Day weekend double header in Calgary. Smoke on!

Save the date June 8-9 /23. The 3rd annual Bassano Small Town Smoke Down is a KCBS master series event. The town is behind this event and each year it keeps getting better. Team registrations open this week. Judges registration opens March 1st. We will also be running a steak ancillary with prize money for the winners. This will be one of five Alberta cup events.

BBQ on the Bow will be working again with Town of Bassano to bring back Small Town Smoke Down June 7th to 9th, 2024.

Today we had a planning meeting for BBQ on the Bow 2024. What are your thoughts if we host Canada's only DOUBLE HEADER contest weekend?

We are considering bringing back the Prairie Dog Contest, this meat supplied contest originated in 2019 where the Master Series cooks were provided with 2 whole chickens, 2 Racks of Ribs, 2 Pork Butts and 1 Brisket. This placed every team on the same playing field of same quality, quantity and start time and see who can really out cook each other.

Time to ask for your input, as BBQ on the Bow is held during the Labour Day Long weekend, would you want schedule would you prefer:

Option A: Move in on Friday, Prairie Dog Turn in on Saturday, BBQ on the Bow Turn in on Sunday.

Option B: Move in on Friday, Prairie Dog Turn in on Sunday, BBQ on the Bow Turn in on Monday.

Don't worry we will still have the 2 Meat Backyard / Amateur cooks along the kids Q.
