Here’s a question I answered for a client this week — How late should you keep your photo & video team? My answer, about 30 to 45 minutes into the dance floor opening is just right 🪩

That way, they’ll capture the shift in energy, the excitement, the outfit change, the vibe… But let’s be honest — after a certain point, no one’s asking for close-ups!

Use your photography hours where they matter most — like morning details and all the special moments while getting ready, those things always turn out better when they’re not rushed.

✨ How did I get into wedding planning?
I’ve wanted to be a planner since I was 14! I worked as a florist during university, volunteered in the industry, and started my business at 23.

✨ What’s my favorite part of wedding planning?
Walking my clients into their reception for a first look, the vows, and sound check lol

✨ What’s on my wedding travel bucket list?
Tuscany, French Alps, Bali…

✨ What’s the one thing every wedding can live without?
Anything that doesn’t add to the guest experience! If it’s not making the day more meaningful or memorable, you don’t need it.

✨ What do I do when I’m not planning events?
I have two little boys (Age 4 & 1), which keeps life busy! I also love running and am training for three half marathons this year.

7 years ago today… my own wedding 🤍 You know what’s funny, I had already been planning weddings professionally for 7 years before I walked down the aisle myself. The experience definitely made things easier, but I felt so much pressure! When I plan for clients, I can stay neutral and objective, but with my own wedding? Not a chance.

Going through this process myself gave me a whole new appreciation for my couples and their stress levels. It gave me a new softness when I see them getting caught up in the details and more patient knowing just how many emotions are wrapped up in every choice.

Now, 7 years on the other side of ‘I do,’ I still love being the steady presence that brings calm and compassion to every little detail.

It’s hard to describe what it’s like to watch nearly 200 people absolutely swarm a dance floor and sing Sweet Caroline at the top of their lungs while the GROOM takes to the stage to play with the band. There was so much love in this room. I just had to stand on a chair in the back to take this video and take it all in… Mission, accomplished. This wedding will live rent free in my brain forever.

The Rehearsal Dinner ✨ This Santa Monica rehearsal dinner was one of my absolute favorites! A playful design set in an intimate space, complete with a delicious 4-course meal and perfectly paired wines. I loved curating a setting where the wedding party and immediate families could connect and celebrate before the larger welcome party kicked off the weekend. Creating these intentional pockets of time with your closest loved ones is one of our best tricks to help make your wedding weekend feel meaningful & ensuring it doesn’t slip by too quickly!

I just wrapped up an incredible 5 days at the stunning , and let me tell you—I’m already counting down the days until I’m back! I know a lot of you were surprised to see me stepping outside the wedding world for this project with my amazing .ca team but it was a JYW first that I absolutely loved.

This buyout was such a unique experience. Having worked in this beautiful property once or twice before 😉, getting the chance to completely transform and take over new spaces was so exciting.

What I found especially fascinating about corporate events is the focus on ROI—it’s all about maximizing impact and strategically curating an experience that aligns with the client’s goals. Honestly, it’s not so different from planning a wedding! Shifting to this perspective was refreshing, inspiring, and taught me so much.

Here’s to many more adventures with my team and hopefully more hotel buyouts to come!! 🥂✨

Are you writing personal vows for your ceremony? Here are some tips to help you write heartfelt and unforgettable vows:

✍️ Keep it short and sweet – Aim for 2-3 minutes. Any longer might lose the moment’s magic.
✍️ Speak from the heart – Be honest, authentic, and true to your love story.
✍️ Set the tone – Romantic, lighthearted, or a mix of both? Choose a vibe that feels like you, and chat with your partner about their vibe too to make sure you’re on the same page about tone and length.
✍️ Share a story – A meaningful moment or funny memory can make your vows feel personal and unique.
✍️ Make a promise (or a few) – Include heartfelt commitments that reflect your hopes for the future.
✍️ Practice aloud – Say them a few times to make sure they flow naturally and feel comfortable to share.

Let’s talk about SPEECHES 🎤

It’s funny how speeches can either be the best part of a wedding or a little… challenging to sit through, right? 😂

My best advice for planning reception speeches:
✨ Keep them short and sweet – aim for 3-5 minutes per speech.
✨ Timing matters – plan speeches between courses or at the end of dinner to keep things flowing.
✨ Never have more than 3 speeches back to back, and avoid having any speeches before guests are served the first course.
✨ Aim for 5 speeches max – this is the sweet spot to keep guests engaged.
✨ Get the MC involved – they should help grab the mic after each speech and introduce the next speaker smoothly.
✨ Make sure the right people are in the room before starting! No one wants to miss a heartfelt toast.
✨ Mic technique is key – remind speakers to talk directly into the mic and avoid the classic “talking with your hands” mistake!

Thoughtful planning makes all the difference in turning wedding speeches into a memorable highlight of the night 💕

While the weddings we bring to life are beautiful, they would be nothing without our process 👩🏼‍💻 It’s one thing to be whisked away by a beautiful instagram feed, but hiring a planner that can also deliver an amazing experience from start to finish & expert logistics is exactly what I am passionate about! We have been refining our JYW process for 14 years now and I am so proud of how bulletproof our critical path to planning an event has become, and how we take care of our clients and vendor partners. There is so much that goes on behind that scenes that is hard to show, the chains of emails, the follows ups, the constant communication and checking boxes you didn’t even know were boxes 😂 All of this unseen effort translates into events that ironically feel effortless, the perfect day.

I’m going to try get better at showing more behind the scenes of how we create the magic this year ✨ It’s a 2025 goal to connect with everyone on here a little more, show the reality of this life as a wedding planner!
