💧Stage one watering restrictions are in effect. Please follow the restrictions and be aware of water use.

Water restrictions help keep water available for necessary City services during the summer months when we see a jump in demand.

In stage 1, residential lawn watering is permitted from 5 to 9 a.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.

• Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays for even-numbered addresses

• Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays for odd-numbered addresses

🌹There are no restrictions on watering gardens, trees, shrubs, and community gardens by hand or with spring-loaded type nozzles with automatic shut-off connected to the hose.

FIRE BAN COMING INTO EFFECT FOR CAMPBELL RIVER
Campfires, backyard fires and beach fires are not permitted from noon on Friday, July 12.

Effective noon on Friday, July 12, 2024, a fire ban will be in place for Campbell River. The ban applies to all recreational fires, including campfires, backyard fires and beach fires anywhere within the city’s fire protection area. All open burning and using items such as fireworks, sky lanterns, burning barrels, and torches (including propane torches for the purpose of burning weeds) are prohibited.

“The City’s top priority is public and community safety,” says Fire Chief Dan Verdun. “Fire bans are put in place when the risk of fire is high or as fire resources are needed elsewhere. Following the fire ban is a simple, but crucial, action we can all take to prevent dangerous fires in and around Campbell River. Although the fire ban is coming into effect on July 12, we encourage everyone to be extremely careful if having recreational fires, like beach fires, between now and then. Conditions are hot and dry, and we are all responsible for fire safety. Thank you for doing your part to protect yourself, your family and friends, and the entire community.”

The ban follows the BC Wildfire Service’s announcement to prohibit campfires for the Coastal Fire Centre, which includes all of Vancouver Island and the south coast of BC. The use of CSA-rated or ULC-rated campfire apparatus and cooking stoves that use liquid or gaseous fuel are allowed at this time, however, in extreme fire conditions, these may also be prohibited.

People found in contravention of the fire ban may be subject to fines and legal action in accordance with bylaws and provincial regulations. Residents can report recreational fires using the City of Campbell River Fire Department’s non-emergency line at 250-286-6266. In the case of an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
