Do you know that many of the creeks around Campbell River support salmon? These amazing fish are there year-round, and in late winter/early spring they emerge from the gravel and begin swimming and feeding freely. These youngsters are very vulnerable, and they face many challenges if they are to survive.
Visit our display and learn about some of the many ways that you can help to keep salmon healthy. We will also help you understand the salmon life cycle, and are planning to have some juvenile coho for you to view.

The DFO Stream to Sea booth will be able to answer all of your burning questions about salmon! Stop by on April 30th at the Willow Point Hall, from 10 - 3.

Come learn more about Greenways Land Trust at the Wild New Life event!

Greenways Land Trust wears many hats in our community, from environmental stewardship and restoration projects to food security. We are so excited to be a part of this event and be able to provide insight on the importance of native plant species and
pollinator gardens, tips on gardening for wildlife, and what our Streamkeepers do for our local streams. We hope to encourage community members to make a pledge to take action and improve conditions for wildlife in Campbell River.

Our mission is to restore, sustain and protect natural areas and critical habitats, particularly ecological and recreational greenways, for the beneļ¬t of our community.

Another amazing organization joining us at the event is Marine Education & Research Society!

The Marine Education and Research Society (MERS) is a non-profit dedicated to the conservation and understanding of marine ecosystems through research, environmental education, and marine wildlife response. Research conducted by MERS includes Humpback Whale population and behaviour studies, and scar analysis to understand and reduce the human-caused threats of entanglement and collision. MERSā€™ "See a Blow? Go Slowā€ education campaign aims to reduce threats to whales and boaters through signage, media engagement, the Whale Warning Flag, and boater education programs. Workshops are provided to amplify conservation efforts. This includes providing Marine Mammal Naturalist
Courses.
MERS will be attending the Wild Wise ā€“ Campbell River event ā€œWild New Lifeā€... come ask about the marine life of our coast from Sunfish, to Leatherback Turtles, to best practices and laws for boater behaviour around marine mammals.

Come learn about MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre at our event on April 30th!

MARS Wildlife Rescue Centre is a non-profit organization whose mission statement is 'to conserve and protect native wildlife and its natural habitat through education and rehabilitation.' On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, come for an exciting, pre-booked tour of MARS for you, your small group, or your family. Learn about our animal patients and the skilled, compassionate care they receive at our hospital. Visit our non-releasable ambassador owls, eagles,
and albino crows, and meet one of our birds up-close with a handler. Our trails pass through gardens brimming with native plants and wilder spaces providing habitat for wild birds. Let our friendly guides give you a visit to remember, then wrap up your experience with a visit to our gift shop and indoor wildlife exhibits
area to learn more. Plan for about a one and half hour visit, with the tour taking 45 minutes.

Admission by donation at the MARS gift shop is warmly accepted by cash, credit, or debit; all donations support our wildlife hospital.

We are kicking off our introductions with Wild Wise Society! They are the heart of this event, and have spear-headed the organization of all the other wonderful groups joining us in April.

Wild Wise started in Sooke, BC, and has since spread around the island. Their goal is to reduce human-wildlife conflict, and promote co-existence with wildlife through awareness and education.

They are a great resource for information about the island's main predators (bears, cougars, and wolves), and even provide guide's on how to be a responsible pet owner and/or outdoor recreation enthusiant.

This event wouldn't be possible without them! Check out their website for more information:
