A Garden Party Dream Come True

The team went above and beyond to create a stunning garden backdrop with lush, colorful florals. Every detail was designed to capture the essence of a West Coast celebration—vibrant, natural, and effortlessly elegant.

The details always elevate the evening, but the moments I love are the unplanned ones, or the surprises. For example, both dads surprised everyone with an impromptu dance during dinner, leaving guests howling. The bride said no plaid shirts since the dads loved plaid. They listened, for 90% of the wedding but decided to make a surprise entrance in the evening when the couples' guard was down.

As the night went on the crowd dance under the stars—a perfect ending to a day.

I thought short, polished wedding films were all anyone needed.

Then I watched my parents’ 2-hour, jumbled wedding video—and it changed everything. It wasn’t cinematic. It wasn’t curated. But it was real.

It had everything—the voices of people we’ve lost, the full conversations, the laughs, the hugs, the quiet moments, and the chaos. 30 years later, it’s those seemingly small, ‘insignificant’ moments that mean the most.

This proposal request came in right during the peak of a busy wedding season - and I almost had to say no due to all the back to back travel. But then you hop on a call with someone like Christian, and you learn about how deeply these two love each other. I knew I HAD to be there.

Christian reached out and wanted to propose to Gloria in San Josep Bay, a place that had his heart. He wanted to share this breathtaking location with the love of his life and surprise her with a proposal there.

We planned together for weeks to sort out a date, figured out where to meet (there is 0 cell phone service out here), shared do's and don'ts of getting down on one knee. All those behind the scenes details that go into executing the perfect proposal.

It was a long walk to the beach, and a long time without service. Myself and my iPhone Video Associate arrived almost an hour early so each couple that started wandering down the beach had us on edge. You can never be sure if people will arrive early or late - this isn't something that can be rushed!

Finally we saw them from a distance. As they stepped closer to the sea stacks, my associate and I pretended to be taking photos and videos of each other as not to raise suspicion.

It all came together perfectly and was SO worth it because it was such a beautiful location and perfect proposal! They were so amazing and easy to get along with, plus with each photo you can just tell how in love these two are ❤️

The way Paige & Liam look at each other 👀

They planned a date night and just hung out together drinking champagne and watching the sunset while I - the third wheel - got to capture their fun, playful sides.

I think many people are nervous to be in front of a camera and feel ‘natural’. It helps when you’re not in front of hundreds of people. Although there are few places to do Engagement Photos in Victoria at sunset without a crowd, I’ve got a few gems up my sleeve like this one.

PRO TIP: If your love language is Quality Time, let’s build this into your timeline.

In my initial call with couples, I like to get to know them and their wedding day vision.

One of the questions I always ask is what their love language is. If it’s quality time, I make sure we dip out for 20 - 30 minutes so they can just BE together - after hours upon hours of getting ready, celebrating, talking to family & guests, it's nice to sneak away.

I took these two for a breather at sunset. Some much needed one on one time + it made for some pretty great photos

If you have a big Wedding Party, this is guaranteed to make the day move smoother:

Plan group photos BEFORE the ceremony!

I ask couples what moments they want to remember 20 years down the line. For these two, some of those things were getting ready with their best friends, the father of the bride's first reaction, the groom's first look, and a whole lot of fun with their wedding party - the friends that mean everything to them.

Because this was all done prior to the ceremony, they didn't have to feel rushed after. They could spend time celebrating, visiting guests, soaking up the congratulations, and taking photos with family.

Proposals are intense, especially if you don't know what you're doing.

People always wonder..

➡️ How do I make sure it stays a surprise?

➡️ What do I say to get everyone to the perfect location? At the perfect time?

➡️ How do I make sure the outfit of choice will be one they want to look back on for years to come?

➡️ And for me as the photographer, how do I not tip them off?

Adrian looped in his soon-to-be sister-in-law to help him plan an epic proposal on Jocelyn Hill. They were vacationing in BC and wanted a proposal worthy of a great story.

I love being involved in the process, I want to help in every way I can!

I gave plenty of location ideas, tips, tricks, you name it so that Adrian & his whole family got in on OPERATION PROPOSAL 🕵️!

They told her that they were going to a beautiful restaurant at the top of the hill and to dress up for it, even though they were hiking to get there so they could take in the view along the way 😂

I dressed in my “tourist” attire so I wouldn’t stand out and ruin the surprise. I arranged to stay as hidden as possible until he gave me the cue.

I think Adrian nailed it - the look on her face says it all. The family was so stoked and everyone was hugging and congratulating them after.

The classic ‘we’re not sure how to act in front of a camera’

These two wanted their photos to feel candid, but haven’t had a lot of experience taking photos like this. My job is to make this happen, it’s to keep people comfortable, happy, and engaged with each other.

Angela also wanted those ‘cotton candy’ skies as the backdrop for this Engagement shoot. The sunset at Saratoga Beach did not disappoint (and never does). Golden hour 🤝 Blue hour. What a combo.

You might be wondering, ‘how does a photographer get people to feel so comfortable?’

I want to capture that fun, playful side so I tell couples this should feel like a date night. The only difference is me, the third wheel, giving you plenty of guidance and movement so you focus only on each other, not the camera.

I believe that the way you feel during your photoshoot is the way you should feel every time you look back at the photos! I ditch the “posed” look (unless that’s what you’re looking for) - but my main goal is real, raw emotions. I’m confident in the work and experience I provide, and always have fun!
