Love this from another Marriage commissioner Barb from Sylvan Lake who took the time to write it .
“Outdoor ceremonies are absolutely beautiful, no question. Things to keep in mind
#1 what is plan "b", you may say,....oh a few sprinkles isn't a problem. Ok, think of your hair, dress, and makeup, they weren't free, also keep in mind, your marriage licence can not get wet as it must arrive to Vital Statistics in good form. Also keep in mind your photographers expensive equipment and your DJ as well.
#2 if you were a guest going to a ceremony and you knew it was going to rain or is raining, how comfortable would you be sitting there getting wet
#3 location, location, location. Is the ceremony location next to or near a highway. Having your ceremony on the family farm,... is it harvest time, as this year, balers, grain trucks, combine dust were all factors along with the smoke.
#4 if the ceremony location is outside and near a highway that also has a hill, the big trucks are gearing up and down, as well as many motorcycles
#5 are there other events near by to cause additional noise
#6 wind, of which no one has control, was a huge factor this year. Many veils were worse for wear.
#7 what are the bridesmaids wearing, both as a gown and for shoes, stairs are a HUGE tripping factor.
#8 how long a walk is it for the bridal party to come
#9 are your guests needing nearby accommodations
#10 some venues require you to wind up your celebration by a certain time
#11 does the venue offer their sound system and if so, do you have someone (if you aren't having your dj do music for ceremony) who knows how to run it for you. If you are renting equipment, be sure you have ALL the cords and the microphone cord is more than 6 feet long
#12 some venues will not let you take their chairs outside for ceremony, you will need to rent chairs or benches as an added expense.
#13 do you have guests with mobility issues
#14 if you have a caterer, do they require a kitchen for set up
#15 what is the capacity of the venue, having a venue that is the right size for your guest list so no one is feeling cramped. don't forget to include your bridal party in that number as well
#16 as crazy as this may seem, check for washrooms at the venue, some you need to rent portable washrooms
#17 are you coming dressed or require space in which to dress and do hair and makeup there
#18 do you need to bring your own signing table or do they provide that for you.
These are but a few of the items to consider when looking for the venue that is right for you, hope this helps”
