My Question i had for myself today: "Do farmers have a voice?" I mean of course they do but have you heard that voice in recent days? Years? I ask only because i feel a silence there when i know they are in trouble. They are fizzling out. And i don't think anyone is actually aware of this... Our own community has lost a substantial number of family generational farmers over the past 10 years and does anyone even know?
And by the way, i feel very very unqualified and overwhelmed to talk so publicly about this stuff, but i feel VERY strongly about it. And if no one speaks up at all..... what happens? The least i can do, is try and start conversation or spark some curiosity on the subject. It is even something i would like more education on so i am so happy i came across this video and maybe ill find more in the coming days.
Bellow i am sharing an uncharged or heated talk on what farming could look like in the coming days in the US from another small scale farmer. I am not trying to be political and this video is not political either. I merely want to shed some light and attention on food security in our country, on the amazing and hard working small scale and family run farmers all over Canada and the US and support those who grow our food and our land that we grow on. Knowledge, curiosity and open safe discussion guys. This is what i am here for!
She mentions something i have been fearing over the last little while. Having a 3rd Generation, Canadian Dairy farm in the family, and hearing the changes our own gov have been making and the hardships they have endured the past few years had a wee voice in my head wondering why the gov has been doing these things unless, it almost seems, they want the little guys to fade away so corporate farming can replace them. Once our gov did things to regulate and protect the farmers who have fed our country for generations and i was proud but i have noticed a shift the past few years and i have been confused and unsure as to why. I hope my worries are silly and our gov is more than ever there and ready to protect our small scale farmers.
Blossom and Branch mentioned corporate farming and a light went off in my head. And im worried, as more and more generational farmers disappear from our very own township every year. My step dad, who has been farming his whole life jsut like his own dad and grand dad, is one of just a few left in our area. Where once, only a few years ago, he was surrounded by other generational farmers as well.
We need food. We need food security. We don't need more billionaire corporations taking over and destroying the earth. We need the farmers who care for their livestock and have a relationship with the land they work on.
Thanks for making this video Blossom and Branch! It is important to share our experiences, thoughts and information on the farming industry and food security.
Today's video is a good one for headphone listening as it's mostly just updating on the current scope of what's happening on our market farm, our conventiona...
