Jan 23rd, 7-9pm - Special Event: Gavin Simms on the 3rd Thursday of every month (4th Thursday this month only).

Join us every 3rd Thursday as Gavin Simms kicks off a new standing gig at the cafe. Gavin is a singer-songwriter from the south coast of Newfoundland, with a soulful voice, thoughtful lyrics, and great guitar work. When he’s not writing or working on his next album, he’s happiest roaming the woods with his dogs. Gavin‘s second album Far Cry was nominated for three MusicNL awards in 2017 (Ron Hynes Songwriter Of The Year award, Male Artist Of The Year, and Alternative Album of The Year).

Swing by to hear some of Gavin’s songs (as well as some works in progress) and the occasional special guest.

The Souris Show Hall is a great venue that showcases some great local talent. Don't miss out!

Did you know … The Souris Show Hall was recognized in 2024 as one of PEI’s Historic places. The Show Hall was built by the Benevolent Irish Society of Souris which was incorporated in 1890. The first order of business was to build a hall to meet and hold events. The construction was financed in large part by a grass roots fundraising campaign of tea parties and concerts including a memorable picnic in August of 1890 which saw upwards of 700 people conveyed to the town by steamship and rail.! The Benevolent Irish Society celebrates its 200th year anniversary this summer and there will be a recreation of the picnic in the park as well as a celebration in the theatre on AUGUST 12th with some fabulous entertainment including RICHARD WOOD! Our second donut of 2025 is a take on a classic sweet, the Nanaimo Bar. thought up this innovative idea to put a new spin on what has become a household dessert across the nation.

Originating in Nanaimo, BC, this popular three-layered square has a rich chocolate coconut and wafer base that is pressed, then topped with vanilla custard frosting, then covered in a thin layer of chocolate. We wanted to make sure all three components were prominent, so we made a thick frosting-like filling and dipped them in chocolate and the coconut wafer crumble.

A bit about Chukky:
Chukky Enyi Ibe is a folklorist, toymaker, novelist, playwright, and poet from Ikeja, Lagos and Hamilton, Ontario. He is a Canadian Festival of Spoken word Finalist, and Ontario International Spoken Word Festival runner up, and a member of the Toronto Storytelling Circle. Graduate of Mcmaster University and pursuing his masters in Folklore at MUN. His stories capture everyday magic.
