Look at that champagne Lisianthus from last summer 😍

It was my first time growing lisianthus and my stems were a lot shorter than I wanted. Hoping this year with some experience under my belt the stems will be longer.

I’ll soon be starting my first seeds for the 2023 season 😁

We got sneak peaks back from the stylized wedding shoot we did last week! It was so much fun providing florals for this special shoot, which turned out to be a surprise proposal for our models!! 🥹

I’m just dipping my toes into wedding flowers this year and so far I am loving it 💕

Lots of transplanting happened this weekend!
Saturday was warm and sunny, a nice day for transplanting but…. Sunday morning was perfect for transplanting. Fresh after the rain with zero mosquitoes!! I put my rain pants on, listening to true crime podcasts, sippin on a coffee with a light breeze. It was the perfect morning😁☕️

Swipe to see what these looked like 2 weeks prior😍
You’re suppose to cut these way before they open like this but this year I’m just testing the best harvest time growth habits because I’ve never really grown tulips before. I realized I’m going to need a smallish cooler to store the flowers in next year cause they all come on soo fast. I deadheaded these and once the leaves die back I might dig and move them to try growing them next year.

It’s tulips season!💕💕
I grew a test crop of tulips this year and so far I am loving them. It’s safe to say there will be more available next year. Especially when I get a cooler built this summer/fall I’ll be ready to roll 😁

I might have some fresh tulip bouquets available at a local store in town on Tuesday! I’ll post more about that on Monday.

Have a nice long weekend! 😁

Got this picture of my dad taking off in his Monday night while I was spreading compost on the flower beds.
I got some very nice 3 year old horse manure from a lovely neighbor. I’ve been using the tractor to dump it on the beds and then raking it out into an even layer on top and then I’m going to till it in. Hopefully once the soil composition improves and more organic matter is incorporated I can go to a no till method.

Lisianthus update!
They are looking really good. It’s crazy how slow going these are but this last month some of them really started taking off. The first two pictures are today. The 3rd is March 31st. The 4th picture is February 25th. And the last picture is February 15th about two weeks after sowing them.
I can’t wait to see these babies full bloom this summer!

Things are looking very green around here and a little yellow in some cases 😅😂
I feel like everyday I’m shuffling things around to make room under the grow lights and the mini greenhouse is getting pretty well full. A lot of these seedlings have been spending the nights outside uncovered to finish the hardening off process but with the rain we’re getting the soil blocks need to be under cover otherwise they lose their shape and kinda melt. So I’ve shoved them in the greenhouse and moved a few trays to sit in my shower for the day 😂 they’ll be moving to the cold frame tonight.

Made hoops for a low tunnel today!
First made a jig to bend 4ft wide hoops, second photo, then cut the 6 meter pipes in half and bent them on the jig. Just need to get the rebar tomorrow to secure them to the ground but we shoved the first prototype into the mud to see the fit. Today we made 20 hoops to cover two 50ft beds! Hopefully I’ll have the hoops up Tuesday and ranunculus planted this week😁

Strawflower seedlings are doing very well in their soil blocks! I sowed a tray of extras so I can do an experiment on how early they can be planted in the ground! I’m hoping to get these into the ground in about two weeks! Which seems crazy cause we just got 20 cm of snow yesterday 🙃😂

Happy spring!!
There’s roughly 9 weeks to our last frost, meaning I’ve got a lot of seeds to start in the coming weeks. My grow light space is filling up and hopefully I’ll be moving the hardy annuals out in the next couple weeks to make room for the heat loving tender annuals.

Eucalyptus- I potted them up from the soil blocks about 2 weeks ago and they weren’t very happy about it… I think the reason is I had the plug tray sitting in a regular 1020 tray with no drainage holes underneath which is helpful for bottom watering but there wasn’t enough air getting around the base of the plugs to dry them out properly. Hence the intense algae growth you can see in these pictures. I’ve since moved them into a base tray that has lots of holes and they are drying out way better in between waterings. Before when I watered and it was still moist a week later; which is not good. I lost a couple I’m guessing due to too much moisture but this being my first time growing these I was expecting that.

This year I’m going to grow an extra row of dahlias from seed in hopes of finding a new and cool variety 😎 but if not at least I know the bees will enjoy them 😁

Rico and I were checking out the size difference in the lisianthus vs eucalyptus this morning. They were both seeded on January 31st, so they’re about 2 weeks old. The eucalyptus is growing it’s first set of true leaves yet the lisi is just chilling not looking to be doing much lol
I’ve heard eucalyptus is slow growing but these seeds I got from all germinated in the first couple days! Out of 100 I think 5-8 didn’t germinate. Hey that rhymed 😉
The lisianthus seeds came from and they’re almost all germinated as well but a couple are still popping up!

P.S. the last slide is my top seed starting employees Rico & Morty they’re always around trying to p*e in my soil bins😅🙃🥲

I’m starting some echinacea/coneflower seeds today in hopes of getting blooms sooner this year. Last year I planted these in early/mid March and they only started flowering at the very end of the season. I don’t even think I got to put them in any bouquets! Last years plants should be cranking out the blooms this year tho!!

I’m also starting a few other perennials and biennials in hopes of getting first year blooms😁😁

The 2021 season has ended!
Thanks for such an awesome first year!!😊

It’s only been 2 weeks since the first hard frost and I’m already missing the fresh flowers. I’m so excited for next season; with all the improvements I’m making things are going to be extra pretty around here.
The spring prep has already begun and I’m actually starting my first seeds in January 😳 I’m going to be trying to grow eucalyptus this year!!!!
Although I’m very excited for spring; I’m typically not one to wish winter away and you’ll be able to find me on the slopes of mount Brookvale this winter 😁😁

Also, I got most of the parts I need to build a tunnel!!!! So I’ve been planning and drawing up how I’m going to DIY that 😁😁

came out to take pictures of the flowers about a month ago and Ariana got some really nice ones!! 😁 I’ll be sharing them throughout the winter lol; I’ve been stocking up flower pics for the winter.

The flowers have slowed down a lot in the last few weeks. Im sad for the flowers to end but Im super excited for skiing this winter! I started clean up and got my peony roots planted this past week. Also my tulip and daffodil bulbs are coming in two weeks!! So I’ve been prepping beds for those and I’ll be making a few new beds this weekend for the early spring plantings. My goal is to have my spring beds all prepped so right when it’s warm enough they’ll be ready to be planted into. This will help a lot since the spring is such a busy season! 🌷😁
