Don’t miss your chance to see Yellowknife Forever!, on display now at Confederation Centre Art Gallery until September 29, 2024. The North has a particular allure, often imagined in paradoxical extremes – cozy cabins in a frozen expanse, the danger of cold vs. awe at its beauty.

The seven artists in this exhibition offer true(er) visions. Using local vernacular, photography, scrap plywood found at the dump, or moosehide sewn into gothic forms, each explores the anti-picturesque character of northern life.

Holland College School of Visual Arts students in the Fundamental Arts, Graphic Design, Photography & Videography, and Video Game Art & Animation Programs will showcase their incredible work in "The Future Is ____" from April 17 to May 12 in the Frederic S. and Ogden Martin Concourse Gallery.

From an exercise in gauging happiness one winter day, came their journey to describe the future, whether personal or cosmic.

April Condon, an instructor in the Graphic Design program, said the exhibition exemplifies the individuality of the School of Visual Arts students.

What evolved is 'The future is _______,', a glimpse into the minds of our talented students, from introspective reflections to bold visions of tomorrow. Adjectives chosen by the artists themselves adorn their creations, painting a vivid picture of the world they envision.

"Our students are naturally very observant and often sensitive to the world around them," says Condon. "Reflecting on how we feel in this moment and what we think the future might be is important for anyone. It's an opportunity to question the future and a collective showcase of imagination."

"Our soon-to-be graduates are expressing themselves through paintings, photography, illustrations, and 3D renderings, and I am excited to see their work on display," she said.

Stop by Confederation Centre of the Arts to take in the more than 50 pieces of work. Find more information here: https://confederationcentre.com/event/holland-college-student-showcase-the-future-is-____/

Confederation Centre Art Gallery was among Islanders who were recognized recently for preserving and promoting Prince Edward Island’s heritage.

PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation, along with Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Perry, presented the 2024 Heritage Awards to groups and individuals in several categories at Eptek Art & Culture Centre in Summerside.

“I want to congratulate all the recipients of this year’s Heritage Awards,” said Fisheries, Tourism, Sport and Culture Minister Cory Deagle. “These individuals and organizations have shown the importance of valuing and preserving our past so it can remain for many generations to come.”

The Gallery was presented with the Award of Honour for “dedication to local art history, scholarship, education, and the collection and conservation if Island artwork.”

Confederation Centre of the Arts congratulates fellow recipients of 2024 Heritage Awards. “The recipients of the Heritage Awards are remarkable again this year,” said Matthew McRae, executive director, PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation. “It is truly inspiring to witness Islanders’ ongoing dedication to preserving and celebrating our heritage.”

Join us for a FREE film screening of 'The Journals of Knud Rasmussen' in the Art Gallery, March 21 at 7:00pm.

An admirable and ambitious epic, set in 1922, 'Journals' follows an Inuit shaman (Pakkak Innukshuk) and his headstrong daughter (Leah Angutimarik) as they try to adjust to encroaching cultural change and deal with Danish scientists who want to study their way of life.

Produced by Isuma, Canada’s first Inuit-owned production company, the film received nominations for a Genie Award and the Rogers Best Canadian Film Award. It was included on the Toronto International Film Festival’s annual year-end Canada’s Top Ten list for 2006.

A conversation and questions will take place after the screening. The film is a great companion to the exhibition 'Arctic Visions, Arctic Life', on view until April 7 at Confederation Centre Art Gallery.

Pre-registration is required via the box office or here: https://confederationcentre.com/event/the-journals-of-knud-rasmussen-2006/ (It says "Buy Tickets" but they are complimentary).
