Congratulations again to Westway Farms Ltd, and the Hadway Family!

Mountain View County Council proudly honoured the Hadway family as the recipients of the 2024 Farm Family Award at our October 10, 2024 Council Meeting.

The Hadway family has deep roots in Alberta’s agriculture, dating back to 1886 when Tom Hadway’s great-grandfather drove cattle to Langdon for the Powder River Cattle Company. Tom’s family immigrated from Ukraine, while Carol’s family settled east of Didsbury in 1911.

In 1974, Tom's parents purchased land in Didsbury, and after completing his education, Tom joined them to incorporate Westway Farms in 1983. Today, under Tom and Carol’s leadership, the operation spans 10,000 acres and includes over 2,400 head of cattle, with their children also playing active roles.

Westway Farms evolved from a mixed venture to a pedigreed seed production farm, achieving certification in 1989. The Hadways prioritize sustainable practices and engage in various initiatives to protect the environment.

Beyond their farming efforts, Tom and Carol are dedicated to community service, with their children actively involved in local agricultural organizations.

We are proud to celebrate the Hadway family’s contributions to agriculture and their commitment to our community. Congratulations on receiving the 2024 Farm Family Award!

Special recognition to the Hadway family, owners of Westway Farms Ltd. in Didsbury were honored with the 2024 BMO Farm Family Award at the Farm Family Breakfast. This prestigious award celebrates their significant contributions to agriculture and their exemplary stewardship of the land.

Located in Didsbury, Alberta, Westway Farms Ltd. is a family-owned operation specializing in growing pedigreed seed and raising purebred Simmental cattle. The farm was officially incorporated in 1983 by Tom and Carol Hadway, but its roots date back to 1974 with the initial purchase of land. The Hadways have built a legacy of excellence, combining traditional values with innovative practices in agriculture.

Dayna Hadway, an integral member of the Agri-Food Committee, exemplifies the family's dedication to the agricultural community. Her involvement and leadership are a testament to the family’s commitment to fostering growth and sustainability in farming.
