We have been creating arrangements for weddings for almost 15 years and 2024 was probably my favourite year so far for florals. The vibe was so flower-focused with soft shades of pinks, peaches, corals and buttery yellows, mixed with fresh whites and touches of greenery – happy, warm, sunny, and so pretty and romantic! As a flower farmer, this allowed us to import less and use more of our own flowers, making our offering more sustainable for Mama Earth. Thank you to all the wonderful couples that we had the pleasure to work with in 2024 – you made it our most joyful year yet!

What a glorious few days we’ve had - finally! And just in time to bring out the blooms for Mother’s Day (we were getting a little worried…)! We will be taking a limited number of Mother’s Day orders for delivery Friday through Sunday, May 12-14. Best way to order is on our website at nightsongfarm.ca as it will prompt you for all the necessary details. Enjoy the sunshine!

Happy Sunday! And what a beautiful Sunday morning this is! This is a long post, but if you're one of our 2022 wedding clients or an interested 2023
couple, please take a moment to read.

First, I would like to thank all our wedding clients for their patience. It is always challenging to be on top of the deluge of e-mails but I have been particularly slow at responding this year. The floral world has been very chaotic so far in 2022. The cold, wet spring really delayed the onset of
flowers. On a global scale, the flower world is experiencing many stresses, from limited production
that is driving prices up astronomically (one of our most used types of
greenery has almost doubled in price since April), to civil unrest in South
America that is affecting floral shipments. Never a dull moment and all
these issues mean that we're spending more time making sure we have flowers
and less time responding to messages. I'm sorry for any concern this may
cause - I have not forgotten you and you can be absolutely certain that you
will have my whole focus during the week leading up to your wedding!

We are receiving many inquiries for 2023. After so much inner debate, I
have decided that we will only be taking on a small handful of weddings in
2023, all in the Cowichan Valley. Night Song Farm has always been a family business and the daughters who have been the pillars of the business for the last decade, with their amazing creativity and artistic talent and
their ability to work under pressure and for very long hours, are ready to move on into the world with their own careers. For fun, I counted
the number of weddings that we've provided florals for since our humble
beginnings in 2011: 569 to date! So many fantastic experiences: the
wonderful couples; the incredible, supportive wedding industry partners; the
marvellous venues. It's been a life-changing, fabulous 12 years, but it
seems like it may be time for life to change again. I am hoping that this announcement today will steer couples to other florists rather than having
to wait for me to respond to their individual e-mail inquiries.

With much love and deep gratitude,

Linda

Taking a break from planting this rainy morning and looking ahead to the coming and long awaited wedding season 😊. Lots of colourful weddings this year, reminding me of this beauty that we were fortunate to work on with last season. Pretty colours on a perfect sunny day at an absolutely stunning venue -

First delivery of the season- finally! This unseasonably cool weather has set back blooming, especially compared to last April, when we had wonderfully warm and sunny temperatures. Every night, it’s blankets on all the seedlings and plants in the greenhouses and blankets off in the mornings. Unfortunately, the slugs are loving their under-the-blankets covert nighttime buffets. But the forecast (current one anyway!) calls for a sunny day on Sunday! Happy Easter everyone!

We will send a pretty certificate by email with your personalized message. Certificates can be redeemed mid-April through mid-October. Happy Valentine’s Day!

An arrangement made this morning with some of my favourite calendula, zinnia and rudbeckia in earthy tones of copper, tan, mahogany and chartreuse. Rudbeckia is commonly known as Black- or Brown- eyed Susan and its most common colour is bright golden yellow. I love these other varieties for the complexity of their colouring - you can get totally different shades on the same plant!

Farming flowers is an ongoing lesson in letting go... when the garden roses bloom, it’s all at once and it’s spectacular. They’ll continue to put out some blooms until the end of October but not in this quantity - that’s a once a year event. And with the rain in the forecast, the current blooms will be short-lived. Nature’s lesson in Carpe diem.

Beginnings... A new start, a new season. For the farmer, this is a very rewarding time: months of preparing beds, sowing seeds, caring for seedlings and finally transplanting them. Weeding , watering, watching, hoping , envisioning... Then, at last... blossoms! One, two, ten, enough to make the first bouquets! Oh, the joy! Ranunculus, anemones, cerinthe, saponaria, chive flowers, ninebark, lilac, centaurea, bluebells, tulips galore, and beloved columbine - welcome! You are so beautiful!
