Pete's been working hard to put in the gate. He's poured the concrete pads, brought down electrical for the double gates ( which involved cutting a path thru the concrete driveway), and just put up the posts this morning.

I'm calling our backyard space the "sunken garden", named after Butchart Gardens in an effort to be inspired by what could be. The backyard has quite a slope and a lot of shale so It will be an interesting challenge. I look forward to working on it.

Fall colours and . . . saying goodbye to the rose garden and hello to a newly grass seeded back yard. We kept all the white 'Easy Spirit' roses 'cause they're so hardy and many of the lavender just so it doesn't look too much like a football field. lol.

Pete built us some new cedar steps and a handmade steel railing that he painted black. Such a talented guy!

So nice that your dog is welcome at Meridale. Their French Toast, made with homemade sourdough, rhubarb topping, whip, and real maple syrup, was to die for!

We lost our Bowen yesterday. It feels too quiet and too loud all at once. We will keep ourselves busy, and Kaiden too. We already have a trip planned to visit family.

If there was a soul mate in dogs, Bowen was mine. We’ll all miss him.

This boy. My love. He’s now 3 months post the Big C diagnosis and he’s still being his amazing self. He’s so independent and wants to do everything himself “I don’t need help getting on the bed Mom”.

Today we went for stroller/ walk rides and swims at Bright Angel park. He was in his glory!

This journey with him has been pleasantly surprising. When we first got the diagnosis of bone cancer I was devastated and expected the worst, like right away.

We saw a Specialist as we just wanted to end his pain but we opted out of amputation due to the cost of 6,000 to 10,000 and a prognosis of only 3-5 months due to the aggressive nature of this cancer.

So, we opted for palliative pain management with a focus on quality of life. We bought a dog stroller so we can still go for walks and, among other things, we provide lots of love on our bed in the evenings and mornings. I’ve started morning play time on the bed where I give him tummy rubs and blurpies haha. It’s now part of our morning routine. It surprises me that even during this time we can still create new experiences and memories - it’s not just all doom and gloom.

I understand bone cancer in large dogs is quite common, as well as deadly aggressive, due to all the info on the internet. What the internet doesn’t tell you is that you may still have quality time with your dog. Xox
