IMBOLC is an ancient festival (February 2nd) to CELEBRATE THE SEED and Nature as they considered it to be unconditionally sacred, an expression or manifestation of deity and divinity. Druids do not worship nature; they give reverence to deity that is expressed within nature. It is the time of Blessing of the seeds and consecration of agricultural tools. It is the festival of the Maiden, for from this day to March 21st, it is her season to prepare for growth and renewal. Brighid’s snake emerges from the womb of the Earth Mother to test the weather, (the origin of Ground Hog Day), and in many places the first Crocus flowers began to spring forth from the frozen earth. Another traditional symbol of Imbolc is the plough. Pieces of cheese and bread are left by the plough and in the newly turned furrows as offerings to the nature spirits. It is considered taboo to cut or pic plants during this time. We can attempt to try to understand this power, this energy that we feel and see all around us, or we can simply accept that it is beyond our full comprehension whilst acknowledging its power over our lives, that it is deity, that it is sacred. To a Druid, the term ‘supernatural’ has no meaning; nothing can be above Nature. Another view would be that the universe had no beginning, it is a continuing, ever changing wonder that we can’t hope to fully comprehend. Within our society it has become normal to think of nature as something linked to the countryside, or that which might be observed outside of ourselves other than that which is beyond the physical. Perhaps we can learn from their knowledge. Food for thought

Cut back and stored away the last of the chrysanthemums from the greenhouse. December 1st and still a few fresh flowers👌(a little worse for wear..it was COLD)
The storage area is full of all the overwintering beauties, dahlias, mums, geraniums and more.
Now to keep an eye on them until spring sunshine & warmth sets them free💯
The greenhouse is home to the young roses and other cuttings for winter protection. Its unheated but still offers protection 🐇 🥶
So much beauty planned for next season, God willing🙌
Even a few new dahlias depite my resolve to cut back😆.
Ive cut back in the seed department but still have some lovelies to share. I may still add to them if i get more cleaned & germination tested.
Flower subscriptions make wonderful gifts 🎁 Maybe treat yourself!

CALENDARS! I will be putting in the order at the printers by end of next week so will need to know asap if you would like one, either for pick up or mail.
Place your order online - just 'search' 'calendar'.
I charge close to cost, $25 for the top quality, spiral bound, lay flat design. Each 1/2 is 8"x10" joined in the middle with the spiral, so opened is a double page, one for the photo, one for the calendar. (cuz I know someone will ask)
If you have purchased one in the past you will already know each has 13 captures of natures beauty from Seeds of Imbolc Farm to enjoy, one each month.
All photos are taken here, by me, the budding photographer ;-)

Last year I did not print them and I really missed my lovely calendar (and so did a few of you) -it may be considered old- fashioned, but I can't do without it.
If you would like one, they make fab gifts, and everyone always loves them.
However, they are too expensive for me to order too many, so if you would like one, or some, please let me know quickly.
I'm late to the game but just decided to make time to get this done, so I can enjoy it all next year, and hopefully you will also.
It is a wonderful, affordable gift that keeps on gifting. (just like the floral subscriptions! Flowers each week for 5 or 10 weeks... yes! Gift yourself!)

Its garlic planting time!
I save the largest bulbs to break into separate cloves and replant for next year.
Size does matter, with garlic 💯
I dig a trench, enrich with organic amendments, cover, mulch and water in well.
Its easy to do and you can't beat fresh homegrown, organic garlic!

When drying your seeds, here are a few tests you can try to see if enough moisture has been removed:

🎃 THE BEND TEST
For large, flat seeds (e.g. squash), try to bend a seed - if it's flexible, it's not dry enough. A dry seed will break when bent.

🌽 THE HAMMER TEST
For large, rounded seeds (e.g. beans, corn), hit a seed with a hammer - if it flattens, it's not dry enough. A dry seed will shatter when hit.

🥬 THE RUB TEST
For smaller seeds (e.g. lettuce, tomato, carrot), rub a seed between two pieces of paper - if it leaves a wet spot, it's not dry enough. A dry seed won't leave any moisture marks on the paper.

Tip: Perform all tests on a number of seeds taken from different areas on your tray or drying rack - not all areas always dry evenly.
