Keep your eyes and ears peeled for the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society's "Young Folk at the Hall" presented by Fergus O'Byrne and Rosemary Lawton! This is a 2-day workshop and concert for students aged 19 and under to work together to share in their own folk traditions and create music together with local and visiting mentors! We are so excited to present this workshop in Happy Valley-Goose Bay this September!

Our first official event announcement! We will have three short-form writing contests, intended for all Labrador residents or anyone attending the festival: (1) a story that can fit on a postcard, (2) a comic strip that can fit on a bookmark, and (3) a poem of 25 lines or less! Prizes will be announced June 18th. Details attached! Spread the word far and wide.

Kelly Russell's "Who Knit Ya?" - LIVE in Happy Valley-Goose Bay!

Coming LIVE to Happy Valley-Goose Bay: it's Kelly Russell's "Who Knit Ya?" This one-man show follows Kelly from rebellious teen to honorary doctor of letters as he highlights the major influences of his professional career. As Kelly plays piano, electric guitar, mandolin, concertina, and fiddle (of course), he shares anecdotes of his progression from high school garage band to Figgy Duff; and from being on TV with The Wonderful Grand Band to being an international ambassador for the folk music of Newfoundland and Labrador. With an eclectic mix of music, recitations from the works of his father Ted Russell, and stories of his travels at home and abroad with musical friends and mentors, “Who Knit Ya?” is a captivating theatrical and musical experience. Written and performed by Kelly Russell and directed by Fabian O’Keefe, “Who Knit Ya” is a rare theatrical and musical experience that will run at the Lawrence O'Brien Arts Centre for ONE NIGHT ONLY! Today we had the honour of watching Stick&Bow -- All the Madmen from Debut Atlantic perform live at Peacock Primary School, as part of the Labrador Creative Arts Festival! Check out a snippet from that show! The students loved it... what a fabulous afternoon! And if you like what you hear, join us tonight for a full performance. The Labrador Creative Arts Festival starts at 7pm with a play from Lake Melville School of North West River, and then a cameo by Animateur extraordinaire Santiago Guzmán!
