Wow! Look at this thing! It shimmers like metallic gold dust.

I am labeling the dahlias so when the frost hits and turns them to black mush, I will know what variety they are for storage over winter.

I don't know what variety this one is. It was labeled Breakout from Spring planting but this flower is clearly not a yellow/white Breakout dahlia. Shape is kinda right, but colour is way off.

Dusty update. Appears we have a circus cat. He likes to climb up the fence posts to survey his territory.

UPDATE: We have our two winners!!
Kimi loved the A and Aleshia picked 2 as her favorite.
Thank you everyone for playing along. I will be posting shortly with pics of the made up bouquets featuring these two amazing dahlias.

Time for a give-away!!!
Let's do two...

Pictured are two Cafe au Lait dahlias, they should be basically the same, but clearly they are not.
Which one do you like more?
A) This is what a Cafe au Lait dahlia is supposed to look like. OR
2) This is how they sometimes turn out. A bit wonky but still adorable.

Answer in comments below and share this post for a chance to win a bouquet. The flower you pick will be in the bouquet.

Draw will be Saturday afternoon.

Our first frost advisory!! Do you know what that means?? A bunch of things. I'll be putting up frost cloths for sure. I'll be harvesting heavily today.

I will be open Sunday afternoon, 1:00 - 4:00 pm. You can pre-order now to guarantee a fresh fall bouquet. Or chance a walk in. I'll update Sunday if the pre-orders sell out the flowers

DM to order.

Year in review finally. Here's Nov and Dec. Each year ends kinda ugly. The flowers are gone. Spring bulbs are planted. We said bye to our indian runners ducks. You may see them down in the Oak Bay area. The hard work of digging and closing the farm down for the winter takes most of Nov and part of Dec. Dahlias are a huge job, we remove all the plastic from the high tunnels and store it away until March/April.

This year, I did slip away at the end Nov for a little girl trip South. A well needed rest before tackling the rest of the dahlia dividing.

Well, that's it for 2024. I had to end with a flower pic even though I did not grow them. We are now gearing up to do it all over again. Hello seed packages, dirt, corms, baby plants, grow lights, broken nails and one really tired out self!!

Year in review continues into June. The gardens really start to show off!! The ranunculus overshadow every other beautiful bloom. And there are so many beautiful blooms. Lilacs, Solomons Seal, allium, iris are abundant. Tulips start to wind down and peonies start to wind up.
Thousands of seedlings are planted out and taking off. High tunnels all have their plastic back on and are the ideal environment for heat loving annuals.
