Today is a bit of a down day. Our Indian Runner Ducks were picked up and taken to their new home. They are off to a hobby farm on the Bay of Fundy. We are not equipped to keep them over the winter but we truly have enjoyed having them with us this Summer. Bye bye my bad ducks!! (Affectionate nick name for them when they went on the road, ate or trampled the flowers, or refused to get in the coup at bedtime.) We'll miss you Snappy, Stocky and Straw.

I love flowers. I am going to miss these guys until May when the season starts for me again. These are the bouquets that are ready now and waiting for pickup. I brought in flowers for a family event but I couldn't help myself. I had to get extras!!

UPDATE: Cakestruck is sold out. Cakestruck is offering a baker's dozen of sweets. $7.50 per package. Vanilla mini cupcakes, shortbread cookies and cinnamon swirl cake. 13 pieces. You can really taste the difference small batch, from scratch baking makes using real butter and gourmet, pure vanilla. But my Cakestruck customers already know that. 🙂

With the gardens being done for the season, I need to buy flowers instead of picking them. I got these for a family event this week but I will thought, why not get extra?? So I did. I need to cheer myself up! November is a tough month: grey, cold and windy.

NEW FLOWER SUBSCRIPTIONS !?
These are all dahlias! Dahlias come in so many shapes and sizes and colours. I think in 2025 I will offer a Dahlia Subscription. Just big beautiful bunches of dahlias!! I need to work out the details but it could run 6 weeks starting in mid-late summer. Dahlias only last a week in the vase, at best, so a weekly bouquet would ensure fresh blooms for the duration of the subscription period.
Oh, and maybe a straight tulip subscription to kick off the 2025 season...

I certainly do give my all to grow these beauties. Even after a hard frost they are gorgeous to me. I do love their curves and all their edges, their perfect imperfections.

This is it!! We had a really hard frost last night. I harvested until it got dark. I could see my breath before I was done. It was so cold here last night! I'm working through the buckets now, cleaning and conditioning these remaining blooms. I'll have bouquets available while supply lasts, then it's over until Tulip Time 2025!!

Saturday night. Darkness pushed me inside again, but not before I got my hands on these babies. This is the reason to have a flower farm. I went through a lot of flowers today. I don't usually run out, I go out and cut more.

Moving on in my Fall ranunculus trial. I am way late getting this in the ground. I had such a good plan, now it's wrecked. I set these outside in the shade to harden them off over 2 weeks ago. Then I got sick and busy. Not a good combo!! They got totally saturated with our heavy rain and I'm afraid they won't recover. But, here goes. Time will tell. Can Fall be Spring? To a plant? A little experiment going on here. Ranunculus are a Spring plant. They like it cold. I started these guys a few weeks ago in the cool basement and they are happily growing in the 55-60 degrees down there under lights. I plan to plant them outside in the greenhouse in early September when the weather has cooled. I'm hoping they think Fall is Spring and produce flowers for an October harvest. It's worth a try.
