🎓TAMWOOD LODGE - Did you know?🎓
In 1967, Muskoka Lake College, an all-boys private school founded by James Allen, operated out of Tamwood in the winter, providing an unusual but ingenious revenue source for the resort during its off-season. However, the unusual concept was considered ahead of its time and the school closed in 1971.

After refurbishment from the side paddlewheeler "Nipissing", Segwun was launched in June, 1925 for the summer passenger season. While originally she was intended to retain the Nipissing name, the extent of the alterations were so extensive that the Navigation Company chose to rename her Segwun, an Ojibwa word meaning "springtime".

🌊🌲DO YOU KNOW the legend of the Muskoka lakes?🌲🌊
According to Ojibway legend, a battle ensued between the formidable Gods Matchi-Manitou and Gitchi-Manitou over unrequited love. In a fit of rage, Gitchi-Manitou dug his fingers into the land and hurled mounds of rock at his rival. The holes left in the ground became the Muskoka lakes and the rocks that were thrown became the 30,000 islands of Georgian Bay.

⏳🎩Downtown Bracebridge in the 1940's🎩⏳
The village was incorporated in 1875 and became a town under an Act of Parliament in 1889. By 1869, Bracebridge was a village with a population of 160 established on the Muskoka River. By 1870 the village had a population of about 400, growing to reach a total of about 2,000 by the turn of the 20th century.
On October 5, 1894 the Bracebridge Village Council purchased a water power generating plant to supply electricity to the community and in so doing made Bracebridge the pioneer in municipal hydro-electric generation in Canada. The generator was 84 kilowatts and housed in the building which still stands at Bird's Mill.
