35 years ago, these 14 young women were murdered at the École Polytechnique de Montréal — because they were women.

We will not forget their names.

Today we remember the Halifax Explosion.

There was a devastating explosion on December 6, 1917, that occurred when a munitions ship blew up in the harbour of Halifax, Canada. Nearly 2,000 people died and some 9,000 were injured.

The blast and the resulting tsunami which surged approximately 60 feet (18 metres) above the high-water mark, pressed some three blocks into the city. More than 1,600 buildings were destroyed by the wave, and debris was scattered for several miles.

Even after all this time it was significant event.

They also plan to send $250 cheques to the 18.7 million Canadians who earned 150K or less
