Low-income households, already struggling to find affordable housing options, face additional challenges when inflation drives up housing costs. Rent increases further strain budgets and make it harder to maintain stable housing. According to a survey conducted in 2019, nearly half (46%) of the households surveyed acknowledged that they would face homelessness if they did not receive assistance from the food bank.
In March 2022, there were 1,841 households paying more than 50% of their total income on rent. In March 2023, that number increased to 2,621 households, putting them at extreme risk of homelessness
