The History of the MiB
In 2001, Simon joined Mark to help with DJing a friendās wedding. As it happened, they both wore similar black suits with white shirts, and we heard all night āHey, itās the Men In Blackā, which we thought had a cool ring to it, and when checking, we found that the domain meninblack.ca was available. So, here we are.
We wanted to create a company that was different than every other āJoeās DJ Serviceā around, in that from day one, weāve offered traditional DJ services, often combined with live music services for a wedding ceremony (such as a violinist, pianist, classical guitarist), or for cocktails/dinner music (our jazz trio does a wonderful job with a combination of saxophone, piano, and bass).
Our philosophy is simple - provide good service at a good price. We are professional and friendly, and try and plan every detail (that weāre involved in) as best we can so that there are no surprises.
Our pricing is reasonable, however we are not the lowest priced service out there. While it is possible to get lucky and find a good service for $400, youāre often going to deal with someone without experience who does not know enough to want more money for their services.
We also donāt believe in nickel and diming people to death; our prices we provide are all in, and our base package includes MC and DJ services (weāre already there and donāt feel the need to charge extra for making a few announcements as is the trend in our industry).
We also include two dance floor lights and if itās a wedding, we always meet with the client about a month prior to the wedding to discuss itinerary and music at no additional cost.
Our upgrade services (live music, uplighting, dry ice, karaoke services) are also reasonably priced.
We want to work with you, get an idea of what you need done, so that we can exceed those needs and make sure everybody has a great time at your function.
We hear from clients all the time who are looking for a DJ because their chosen DJ was suddenly (and usually with little/no notice) unavailable to do their function. This will never happen with MiB.
Itās in each contract we do that if we are unable to attend, for whatever reason, it is our responsibility to find a replacement, at no additional cost to you.
In our case, Simon is Markās backup, Mark is Simonās backup, and if weāre both occupied, we know many people in the industry who would do a great job.
That said, weāve never had an issue or missed a function. We just want to make sure weāre covered in case of a worst-case scenario.
