Get ready to fall in love as we celebrate the publication day of First Métis Man of Odesa, the globetrotting romance by Matthew MacKenzie and Mariya Khomutova!

Matt and Masha hit it off during a theatre research trip in Ukraine. At first they seem like opposites: Masha loves the sea, Matt loves mountains. Masha is Ukrainian, Matt is Métis. But the passionate spark ignited between them cannot be denied. Despite the improbabilities of a cross-continental relationship, a few fairy-tale visits overseas solidifies their bond. But when it seems distance could be the only obstacle in their path, a series of extreme circumstances put their commitment to the ultimate test.

Based on actual events, First Métis Man of Odesa is the extraordinary true story of a whirlwind romance that withstands a global pandemic, a surprise pregnancy, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Transcending the usual tropes of documentary theatre, this heartwarming how-we-got-together tale turns art of the here and now into a catalyst for action and a hopeful ode for a better future.

A story to cherish forever, get your copy today: https://www.playwrightscanada.com/Books/F/First-Metis-Man-of-Odesa

The Kamloops Music Collective would like to take a moment to express our sincerest gratitude for everyone who helped our summer camp students evacuate and relocate from the Kamloops United Church today as the most unfortunate circumstances occurred by way of fire. The firefighters, church staff, and police all acted quickly and diligently to make sure everyone was safe and out of harm's way.

We understand we are not the only ones displaced during this time and our hearts go out to all of the church staff, child care programs, and community programs that are so deeply and suddenly affected by the fire that happened today. The Kamloops United Church has been our home for many years, and the magnitude of how hard this will impact our downtown community in the short term is huge, not to mention the long term effects as many seek sanctuary here for essential services to improve their daily lives, health, and wellbeing.

The Kamloops Music Collective will forever be grateful to the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra and Western Canada Theatre at The Kelson Hall for opening their doors to us when we were evacuated. Kelson Hall has extended the invitation for the duration of our 1 week musical theatre camp so we will have a homebase.

Thank you again to all first responders, community members, and organizations who have helped this day run smoothly and to all of our summer camp families for being amazing and understanding during a difficult and definitely unexpected event. Finally, thank you to our amazing Kamloops Music Collective staff for acting fast, and keeping the children calm, focused, entertained, and fed! We are truly so lucky to have the best staff at every camp we run and this is a testament to their dedication to the Arts and the children of Kamloops!

The children are all very excited and motivated to keep on rehearsing and preparing for a very memorable performance for their families.

As they say in the theatre business... "THE SHOW MUST GO ON!!"🎶
