๐ŸŽ„โœจ Honoring Lois Williams โ€“ Support the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation โœจ๐ŸŽ„

Today, November 29th, would have been Lois Williamsโ€™ 86th birthday and the opening night of the 2024 Williams Light Show. Lois was the heart of the Williams Light Show, and even after losing her to cancer six years ago, weโ€™ve continued to honor her memory through the show and by raising over $45,000 for cancer research.

While the lights wonโ€™t shine this year, weโ€™re still accepting donations for the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation in her honor.

Please join us in celebrating Loisโ€™s legacy by supporting this cause so close to many of our hearts. Together, we can continue to make a difference.

๐ŸŽ‚ Happy Birthday Grandma โค๏ธ

To our amazing supporters:

Itโ€™s with heavy hearts that we share some news about the 2024 ๐–๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐š๐ฆ๐ฌ ๐‹๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ ๐’๐ก๐จ๐ฐ. This post isnโ€™t easy to write, but we want to be open about whatโ€™s happened, whatโ€™s next, and where weโ€™re headed.

Last year, during a Kingsville town council meeting, the Williams Light Show became a point of discussion. Concerns raised by a small number of neighbors led the town to propose a new bylaw regulating large holiday displays. This bylaw, which requires extensive documentation to obtain a permit, was finalized on ๐๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ฆ๐›๐ž๐ซ ๐Ÿ’, ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ’โ€”long after planning, programming, and setup for the show would have started.

Despite knowing that it takes months of work to prepare our display, the town council and administration delayed the bylawโ€™s implementation for almost a year. This gave us no time to comply and no clarity on how to proceed within the guidelines of the new bylaw. When we reached out for clarification, immediately after the bylaw was passed, we were met with delays, vague responses, and demands for in-person meetings.

We requested written answers to ensure we could follow every rule and protect the permit (if granted), but the town refused to provide clear guidelines. In our view, the bylaw was written ambiguously, leaving too much room for interpretation and making it easier to revoke permits at will. Even if we had received answers promptly, it would have been impossible to set up the show in time due to the extensive effort required.
We poured hundreds of hours into programming this yearโ€™s show starting in June, holding onto hope. But with the bylawโ€™s timing, complexity, and lack of several important details, there was simply no way to make it work. ๐Ÿ’”

The reality is that

This year has been a turning point. What was once a tight-knit, supportive town has changed in ways that no longer feel like home. After much thought, weโ€™ve made the incredibly difficult decision to sell 24 Marshwoods Blvd and will be moving elsewhere.

We want to express our deepest gratitude to our incredible neighbors, especially:
๐ŸŒŸ ๐€๐ฌ๐ก๐ฅ๐ž๐ฒ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ƒ๐š๐ง across the street, who opened their lawn to thousands of visitors every year.

To the rest of our supportive neighbors on Marshwoods Blvd and Conservation, Your kindness and encouragement have meant the world to us.

This show began as a labor of love between Colton Williams and his late grandmother, Lois Williams, who passed away from cancer six years ago. Christmas was their thingโ€”a bond that became the foundation for the light show. Since Loisโ€™s passing, weโ€™ve raised over $๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ“,๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐œ๐š๐ง๐œ๐ž๐ซ ๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ž๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ž๐š๐ญ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ in her honor.

While the lights wonโ€™t shine at 24 Marshwoods this year, we hope youโ€™ll still donate to cancer charities in her memory.

This isnโ€™t the end of the Williams Light Show. ๐ŸŒŸ Weโ€™re working with the Municipality of Essex and County of Essex to hopefully bring the magic back to a community near you soon! Moving the show is a massive undertaking, and we anticipate returning in 2026. While itโ€™s a pause, we hope youโ€™ll keep the Williams Light Show in your hearts until we light up again, brighter than ever.

We want to ensure that no one makes the trip to 24 Marshwoods Blvd this year expecting to see lights. Please share this post with your family, friends, and neighbors so everyone is aware of the cancellation.

Though this will be our darkest Christmas since losing Lois in 2018, we take comfort in the joy and memories weโ€™ve created together. Letโ€™s all light up our homes and hearts this year to spread the Christmas spirit we love so much.

Our totals are in! You helped us raise โญ๏ธ$7469.63 โญ๏ธfor the Windsor Cancer Centre Foundation this year!!

Special thanks to our volunteers from the Cancer Foundation who walked along Santaโ€™s side helping out , our hot chocolate hustlers from Erie North Shore U11 C hockey team who had amazing Team Soirit and split their donations with us ,neighbours Ashley Regehr-Incitti & Dan Incitti who welcomed a yard full of spectators all month long , E & L who allowed people to watch from their driveway any time , those kind & patient neighbours in nearby homes & streets who showed their support & Christmas spirit , Terry Edgerton for his amazing traffic directing skills , family members who helped hang lights and Jasmin Celine for her patience and help during this season โ€” life gets put on hold for almost 3 months when Light Show season begins and she digs in and devotes many many hours to help make this show a success . She is a huge help to Colton who is our LightShow Master but she is his LightShow Queen.
And finally, thank you for the amazing outcry of support from you all- the messages & letters written, phone calls , words of support & appreciation was overwhelming. Colton created this show out of love and pours his heart into every second of every single show and he does it expecting nothing in return except to spread Christmas joy; and hopefully raise funds for a cause that is near and dear to most of us . His dedication is inspiring and he will choose Griswold over Grinches every time.๐ŸŽ„ โ™ฅ๏ธ โ™ฅ๏ธ
