🍁 - Did you know Peppercorn originates from the tropical regions of South India is isn't native to Canada at all?

That's right! Peppercorn has been a prized spice in the global trade for centuries BUT Canada actually has it's own bold & pungent berry that offers a very similar aromatic alternative - Juniper Berries!

It's most commonly used in rubs and marinades (we LOVE it in our meat rubs and even some savoury desserts), and the good news is there's no foraging involved either. The dried or ground forms can be commonly sourced at most local grocers

🥗 : "Food is a way for us to reconnect with the Indigenous culture, celebrate, and bring us all together. Food is holistic, its medicine, and breaking bread is a time of listening.” - Chef Destiny

In a world filled with diverse culinary traditions and flavours, there is a profound, underlying truth that unites us all: food is more than just sustenance; it is a powerful means of connection, a source of celebration, and a force that can bring communities together.

Food, in Indigenous culture, is more than just a meal. It is a connection to the land, a reflection of the ecosystem, and a testament to the rich tapestry of traditions passed down through generations. Each ingredient is a story, and each recipe is a form of cultural preservation. When we sit down to share a meal, we are not only nourishing our bodies but also our spirits, connecting with the wisdom of those who came before us.

Now if we told you to make a dessert without wheat flour, sugar and dairy, what would you make?

I'll tell you what we'd make, Butternut Squash Maple Sorbet!
