Running a small business is not easy — it can be physically and mentally exhausting — especially with rising costs and big-box competition. Yet you continue to choose local, and that choice truly means everything to us, especially during these challenging times.

I am so deeply grateful for my amazing team who stands by my side every day, and for my family — my constant, loving support behind the scenes. I couldn’t do this without you.

As we pause to rest and spend time with loved ones, we will be closed for a winter break from December 25 to January 12, reopening with regular hours on Tuesday, January 13.

The most stunning Dutch Vanda orchids — Sangria — my absolute favourite!
We’ve been creating lots of beautiful arrangements with them, and you truly kept us on our toes today. We designed our little hearts out 🤍

Care tips for your winter arrangement:
• Please add water every couple of days (cold or slightly lukewarm).
• Misting helps combat our dry winter air.
• Avoid placing flowers near ripening fruit.
• Always use a plate or coaster underneath to protect your surfaces.

For cut florals:
• Re-cut stems before placing them in water.
• Use a properly sized vase and fill the water level right to the top of the vase — this is very important for longevity.

about us

Gerie, the owner of Dutchess Flower Company, always knew she wanted to work with plants and flowers. She completed horticultural school and went on to for an additional four years of Horticulture studies in college. with a major in Floral Design. She has been working in the industry for 27 years, first in Holland, and then in Alberta, after moving here when she was 21.

While raising four boys on a farm just outside Lacombe, Gerie worked at Floral Expressions in Red Deer. She always dreamed of opening her own European style flower shop, and so Dutchess Flower Company was born. It is truly a family business with every member of the family involved in some way.

Highlighting the history of the building, the original brick walls and painted logos, from when the building was a mechanic shop in the 1920s, have been incorporated to create a bright, open, and welcoming space. Gerie is thrilled to be part of the bright future in the thriving community of Lacombe.
