Dutchess always has a vibrant assortment of fresh flowers - a favourite amongst them are the roses - there are so many varieties and different kinds - This beauty is the Peach ‘Kahalah’ garden rose featured here 〰️ A few fun facts about roses : 🌹
🌹Ecuador is one of the world’s largest suppliers of roses, with an astonishing 54% of the land filled with roses. There is natural light all year round providing the perfect climate for flowers to thrive with longer growing cycles.
🌹Roses are possibly one of the oldest flowers -
There are rose fossils that date back 35 million years. The oldest living rose is 1,000 years old, and it lives on the wall of the Cathedral of Hildesheim in Germany! 🌹There are around 150 species of roses across the world, with thousands of hybrids too! Cherries, apples, peaches, plums, pears, apricots, and almonds are all relatives of the rose family. 〰️

Hello ! 🌸 A small glimpse of some of what we have been working at behind the scenes of Dutchess 〰️ a fresh makeover for when we open up again next Tuesday , January 7th , 2025 ▫️We have been very busy doing our inventory, deep cleaning , painting , re stocking the store and finishing up the new displays ▫️We can’t wait to show you next week 🎀 And please take note of a small change in our hours - Tuesday to Friday 10:00-5:00 and Saturday 10:00-4:00 and closed Sunday/Monday . about us

Gerie, the owner of Dutchess Flower Company, always knew she wanted to work with plants and flowers. She completed horticultural school and went on to for an additional four years of Horticulture studies in college. with a major in Floral Design. She has been working in the industry for 27 years, first in Holland, and then in Alberta, after moving here when she was 21.

While raising four boys on a farm just outside Lacombe, Gerie worked at Floral Expressions in Red Deer. She always dreamed of opening her own European style flower shop, and so Dutchess Flower Company was born. It is truly a family business with every member of the family involved in some way.

Highlighting the history of the building, the original brick walls and painted logos, from when the building was a mechanic shop in the 1920s, have been incorporated to create a bright, open, and welcoming space. Gerie is thrilled to be part of the bright future in the thriving community of Lacombe.
