🩷 GIVING TUESDAY - DECEMBER 2ND 🩷

Giving Tuesday is a global movement that encourages people to give back to their communities through acts of kindness, donations of time or money, or by sharing their talents.

From December 2nd-16th, the Laketown Ranch Benevolent Society will MATCH financial donations received by Cowichan Lake Community Services (up to $7500.00). Donations can be made in-person by visiting their office, located at 121 Point Ideal Drive in Lake Cowichan, or via their website at www.comserv.org

Everyone has something to give and every act of generosity counts! This year on Giving Tuesday, Laketown Ranch Benevolent Society is once again partnering with Cowichan Lake Community Services to bring awareness and support to their organization.

Cowichan Lake Community Services is a not for profit/charity organization in Lake Cowichan with the mandate to provide social and economic development programs for the Cowichan Lake area. They provide a variety of services including counselling, family supports, WorkBC employment program, Red Cross loan cupboard, homelessness prevention and support services, public access to computers and other printing/copying services. They also offer a variety of food security initiatives including a weekly fresh food market and a community luncheon. At this time of year, one of their most notable programs is their annual Christmas Hamper program.

Each year, individuals and families living in the Cowichan Lake area may apply to receive one of these hampers. They include a selection of meats, dairy, and vegetables, as well as other non-perishable grocery items and a local gift card so that recipients can purchase their own food items in accordance with their own personal preferences. For those who have children in the home, they also provide a variety of toys & gifts.

Last year approximately 175 hampers of varying sizes went to individuals and families in the community.

We need your help.

Michelle Loreta has been a part of the Laketown family for several years. As part of the operations crew, you may have seen her scooting around in a golf cart, building fences, hanging signs, or just generally working hard to help put on the concerts and festivals at Laketown Ranch.

Or you may caught her angelic voice on one of our stages, or at many other local venues up and down the Island, singing alongside her partner Mike in the dreamy folk duo From The Earth.

Michelle has recently received a thyroid cancer diagnosis, and will be undergoing treatments & procedures over the coming months.

Music is not only Michelle’s purpose, it is her livelihood. Her voice is how she supports herself and shares her gift with the world. During this period when she cannot perform, a GoFundMe page has been created as a way for us to stand beside her. It gives us a chance to return some of the love, beauty, and inspiration she has given us through her art, her faith, and her presence.

If you are able, please consider contributing.

The Laketown Ranch Benevolent Society supports our local communities!
Since 2018, the LRBS has donated more than $1.5M to local charities, groups, students and other initiatives that support the Cowichan Valley.

These funds are generated from our events;
50/50 sales (>$127,000), can & bottle returns (>$85,000), tips from bars (>$38,000), ice & shower sales, on-site shuttles & other revenue streams all contribute to giving back in meaningful and impactful ways.

Just some of our many benefactors include: Nourish Cowichan, Kaatza Lake Side Players Society, Cowichan Lake Community Services, Women Against Violence, Therapeutic Riding Association, Search and Rescue, Cowichan Lake Arts and Culture, Cowichan Valley Youth Services, Lady of the Lake, local area student scholarships, local food hampers, and many others.

This summer we partnered with the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation their 'Rockin' Out for Healthcare' campaign, raffling off a sign Nickelback guitar at the sold out Nickelback concert in August, selling over $30,000 in tickets, benefitting the CDHF, and going toward equipment for Cowichan's new hospital.

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we were humbled to receive this powerful gift from the Ts’uubaa-asatx Nation — a massive hand-carved piece, offered as a sign of gratitude for our continued and meaningful friendship.

This day is one of reflection, acknowledgement, and learning. To receive such a gift on a day of such weight and meaning is something we hold with deep respect.

The carving will be displayed at Laketown for years to come — a lasting reminder of the original blessings we received from the first peoples of the Cowichan Lake area to build our amphitheatre in their traditional territory, and of our responsibility to honour and continue building these relationships for generations to come.

With extreme gratitude, we humbly thank Ts’uubaa-asatx for their trust, generosity, lasting friendship and of course this incredible gift.

PLEASE READ:
Lake Cowichan RCMP is investigating multiple instances of fraud outside the recent Nickelback concert at Laketown Ranch.

The fraud involved the sale of fake wristbands to unsuspecting victims at the concert.

Investigators believe multiple patrons were defrauded after purchasing entry wristbands from a man which were later discovered to be fake.

With the assistance of event security, a suspect was identified, taken into custody and released with a future court date.

While some fraud victims have come forward, the Lake Cowichan RCMP believe there are additional victims who have not been yet identified.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have information related to this investigation, and are asking the public to come forward by calling the Lake Cowichan RCMP at 250-749-6668
