It’s been 50 years since this landmark Canadian movie changed the course of the horror genre. It’s still scary as hell
Bob Clark’s sorority house-set “Black Christmas,” beloved by Quentin Tarantino and Eli Roth, heavily influenced the ‘80s wave of slasher movies.
WARNING: This article contains spoilers.
For Lynne Griffin, the audition seemed very straightforward. After all, the character the Toronto actress was trying out for didn’t have many lines. But one question seemed unusual: “How do you feel about having a plastic bag over your head?”
She was actually fine with that because as an avid swimmer she had lots of experience holding her breath. With that response, Griffin landed the role of Clare, the first member of a university sorority house to be murdered by a serial killer in “Black Christmas.”

‘Harvest’ Production Crew Sowed the Very Field Seen in the Movie Prior to Filming: ‘It Was an Entire Process’ | Wrap Studio
TIFF 2024: “Which hadn’t been touched in like 400 years or something,” star Caleb Landry Jones adds
The production crew got their hands dirty for director Athina Rachel Tsangari’s drama “Harvest,” sowing the entire field – which apparently hadn’t been turned over in centuries – that was harvested in the historical film.
“The important thing to know is that we actually sowed the field that you saw that we harvested,” Tsangari told TheWrap’s Joe McGovern at TheWrap’s 2024 TIFF Studio sponsored by Moët & Chandon and Boss Design. The film was shot in Scotland. “It was an entire process of actually sowing the seeds.”

14 Buzzy Films for Sale in Toronto, and What It Means for the Indie Film Market
Let’s see if those famously kind Canadian audiences can convince Hollywood studios and streamers to bring the indies of this year’s Toronto International Film Festival back with them through customs.
As always, a promising crop of star-studded films are headed to TIFF in search of distribution. Some have tantalized audiences in Venice or Telluride, some showed only brief glimpses of their wares to early suitors in Cannes, and some are on the ground over the next week to make splashy debuts just in time for awards consideration.

"Shut your filthy mouth": Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have Canadian debate on "Hot Ones"
Vancouver’s own Ryan Reynolds and Australia’s Hugh Jackman faced off in a battle of hot wings and national pride on the hit YouTube series First We Feast: Hot Ones.
Both actors, playing fan-favourite heroes Deadpool and Wolverine in the impending Marvel release, were on the latest episode of Hot Ones, which was released on Thursday morning.
At one point during the 25-minute hot wing extravaganza, host Sean Evans pitted co-stars against each other and asked them which country was better in several categories. The stars were mostly humble and generous but, at one point, nearly came to comical blows in defence of their home countries.
