🎄Have we got a treat for you!🎄

That’s right! ONE WEEK from tomorrow, on Wed. Dec. 18th at 6:30pm, the Department will present our annual Christmas concert and this one is going to be a doozy!

Featuring this semester’s amazing beginner Gr. 9 Instrumental Music class and the awesome talents of our Gr. 10 and 11 Music Theatre classes, we have a fun and entertaining programme of holiday favourites that is sure to get you in the holiday spirit!

Doors are at 6:15pm; Show is at 6:30pm

Admission is by donation with a suggested amount of $5/person. Proceeds will go to our Aging Instrument Campaign and to our Music Theatre Programme expenses.

We hope you, you family and all your friends can come out and share in some holiday cheer with all of us in the VHSS Music Department!

Our very own Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr of fame today in our Gr. 10/11 Music Theatre class!

Have you seen this incredible musical? and and the whole cast are such inspirations for our current Music Theatre students (two of whom did a quick dress-up for their first-time-ever duet assignment!)

I love seeing students who are new to the world of musical theatre start to come out of their shells and then to really blossom over the semester! It is such an amazing journey that they each, individually, traverse! I can’t wait to see what they do by the end of January!

Today, September 30, is Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day.

Our Gr. 9 Instrumental and Gr. 10 & 11 Music Theatre Classes watched the documentary with about and and Gord’s journey to make and to tell the powerful story of 12 year old Chanie Wenjack.

This afternoon, our school as a whole will walk around our campus on a Truth and Reconciliation walk, learning, as we go. One stop will be at the Downie-Wenjack flag.

As we honour our Indigenous Peoples today, so must we remember and strive to do better all the days of the year. Of the 94 recommendations set for by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, none have been fully implemented to this date. It is up to all of us, as Canadians, to do better!

🎄🎅It’s CHRISTMAS in the Department!!🎅🎄

Say WHAT?!?!

It’s true! You may have seen a bunch of .bears meandering the hallowed halls of The Valley today, dressed in their best Christmas finery! And you likely were asking yourself: “WHY?!”

Well…the facts are in: These Early-Bird Christmas Merry Makers are, in fact, our 2024/25 students, and we already have Christmas on the brain!

So we dressed up today, brought in Christmas treats to share and started watching the movie-musical starring and leading this great cast!

Getting inspired by this awesome musical and putting our thinking caps (or should I say Santa Hats 🎅) on for our own show in December!

Who says you can’t have Christmas in September?!

🎶🎶What a Night!!🎶🎶

A very BIG CONGRATULATIONS goes out to all the participants in tonight’s Spring Arts Fling!

We were greeted in the Bear Pit by a wonderful display from Mrs. MacKenzie’s Art classes. Great job to all these fine artists!

And then our grade 9-12+ Instrumental students did a wonderful job on a very challenging programme of contemporary band music. They have worked incredibly hard this semester and really shone tonight! I am SOOOOO proud of them!

We also had six vocal soloists perform and their choice of repertoire and resulting performances were stellar!

A very big thank you to our community of friends and supporters who help to make nights like this possible: to the Long Point (Port Rowan, ON) Lions Club for their generous donation last year; to the for their incredibly generous donations year after year! And to the Picks and Sticks Charity for helping us with stage lighting! We so appreciate your support!

Thank you to all the wonderful staff and Administration at .bears for all you do to make The Valley an awesome place to learn and grow!

And don’t forget: if you are a parent or guardian, family member or friend…keep supporting these young people in their creative endeavours (or with whatever passion they have!). Your support and affirmation of their interests is what will help them grow into amazing adults!

And now….in other news! Is there anyone else with a self-inflicted Boomwacker injury after tonight’s show? All I can say is, When I Boomwack, I Boomwack with conviction (and I have the bruises to prove it! 😂😂😂)
