It’s been nothing but crickets over here. So here is a pretty arch.

Honestly, life is funny-one can love something so much in a season, only to realize that those things can change in another. I’ve loved creating floral designs for countless couples, arrangements for those sacred and special moments alike. Building a brand and community through floral design was a beautiful part of my story-but as we’ve transitioned away from the place where those the first of those business roots were laid, I’ve had a moment to breathe. Find rest in my home, and beauty in the everyday. It’s not been easy, stepping back-laying aside, but it’s been worth it spending these days with my daughters-being intentional with the moments we have together.

I see so much potential to continue this business, but it’s difficult to see exactly how that will happen.

So I’m finding peace in the silence, living-sometimes surviving-but holding these things gently, because the season before has brought us here, and here is incredibly beautiful.

Hoping you can find beauty in the everyday, no matter how great or small your everyday may seem.

While the sun shines and blue, cloudless skies hang above, our hands are sticky with damp soil from the bed prepared for these ranunculus corms. It’s been a season of slowing down, taking a breath-much like these corms which spend half the year curled up in a paper bag, waiting to be soaked and planted-covered with earth. The quietness of this season has been welcomed-not always easy-but welcomed in its own right. But like the dormant corm, there’s so much beauty held within, just waiting for the moment to be planted only to begin the arduous journey of blooming again.

We woke this morning to a blanket of snow, while just a few days ago we were met by sunshine and blue skies on the beautiful island of Molokai. From one island to the other, one climate to another-finding beauty and peace in both the glistening calm of a fresh snow as much as the rhythmic crashing of waves upon the warm beach.

Wherever you find yourself today, I hope there’s glimpses of beauty and joy, peace and calm.

Here’s a photo that brings me joy. It’s from our 10 year vow renewal this past July. It was so satisfying making a bouquet for our own special occasion, and it’s a reminder of the smile I get when I’m designing bouquets for your special days as well. Designing with flowers isn’t all roses, but I’ve found that there’s something special about those moments of quiet where I’m piecing together bits of beauty.

I’m looking forward to uncovering the ways this joy will continue in the season ahead, whether great or small-I know flowers will always be apart of my story.

More cozy season vibes, please.

There’s so many beautiful reasons to have a wedding later in the season-rich tones, dresses with sleeves, spicy drinks, maybe some velvet and golden hour photos at 5 pm!

Petal and Stem has officially moved to Qualicum Beach, BC!

Many of you have journeyed with me these past five years in Lethbridge, AB and it’s been the greatest honour to be supported by you. Leaving such a beautiful community has been incredibly bittersweet, but I’m hopeful for things to come!

There’s already some exciting collaborations ahead in our new Oceanside community-I’ll be sharing those details later this week. But it seemed necessary to mark this transition and provide an update.

I am and will continue to be immensely grateful for all who have supported Petal and Stem in the past-it’s the fuel that encourages me continue this dream, no matter where our path may take us.

F I V E. Well, technically five years and one day, but who’s really counting?

It’s hard to believe that Petal & Stem has been a reality for half a decade. I remember snagging my handle, posting pictures from weddings I’d designed prior to anything official, using hashtags to hopefully snag somebody, anybody. And then a client reached out who I didn’t know, wasn’t a friend of a friend, they were complete and total strangers. We met at Starbucks for my first consultation and the rest is history.

I’ve now designed over 150 weddings, cleaned thousands of stems, written numerous notes on your behalf, and shed tears amidst many of your arrangements. It’s fair to say that five years have been full and messy and beautiful.

Though this next chapter is less familiar than the one before it, marking what has been leaves me increasingly thankful. Thankful for the people, the experiences, the flowers that have brought so much beauty to my own life and hopefully to yours.

Thank you for your support, it’s what makes this milestone worth mentioning.

Off to our next adventure.

Early this morning we departed from Lethbridge, our home of 9 years. We’ve brought three beautiful children into the world here, worked, played, and leisured in an incredibly beautiful place.

But people, people are what have been the hardest piece to leave. We are thrilled(and terrified) for the things to come, but thankful to leave with such full hearts. From this business, to being in the community, school and church, Lethbridge has been and will continue to hold a dear place in our hearts.

So, though I’ve said it a thousand times, thank you for making a piece of this story such a wonderful one. This business grew out of a literal dream-and you, the Lethbridge community, found it in your hearts to cheer me on. As much as our future, and that of this business, feels uncertain-I leave knowing that a trail of beauty was left behind-and that’s the most humbling thing of all.

So, thank you-I’m left forever changed.

P.S. I doubt this will be the end of my flower journey. I think it’s something that’s forever with me-so I’ll keep my account open, and we’ll go from there.

While there have been many ‘lasts’ this past week, last wedding as a Lethbridge florist, last flower delivery, last vases washed and tucked away, the honour of being featured on today, is especially sweet as a ‘first’. This shoot, over a year ago, has been one of the highlights of my career. And while no recognition is necessary, it’s nonetheless encouraging.

Sometimes things take time. Sometimes things you dream of don’t happen overnight. Sometimes you’re surprised.

Amidst all changes, beauty remains and will continue too. It’s been a humbling experience stepping into the creative arena, and one that has been such a gift. While there will be changes, I know that this season has been a sweet one-and I won’t soon forget.

I packed some vases away today. And that was weird.

When we talk about change, we must talk about loss. Life is full of changes, and many of you have been on this journey with me since the beginning. You’ve seen change here, and experienced it in your own life-and I’ve been both honoured and humbled to be apart of many of those deeply personal moments though flowers.

But packing away vases, rifling through pieces of this business knowing it’ll soon shift away from Lethbridge, is hard. And weird. And simply put, involves me coming to terms with change.

Historically, I’ve never been very good with change. So this is familiar yet seemingly uncharted waters. I’ve never have to relocate a business, make a whole new community in my thirties, leave our home I honestly thought we would live in forever.

Yet, here we are-certain we need to close this chapter. Pack up these pieces of our life and say goodbye to what nearly a decade of living has given us. But that comes with it’s own set of sorrows, even though we’re absolutely thrilled for what’s to come-and pretty nervous, too-just to keep it real.

I know this space will change, and I know my diary of this season isn’t for everyone, but if you’ve ever had to say goodbye, I’m sure you’ve had process to that in your own way and even in your own time.

I bought a way too many seeds over the last few days, so I do expect Petal & Stem will continue to exist, but I just want to pause and acknowledge that change can be hard. And it’s okay to grieve those losses, however great or small they may be.

Because I’m over here grieving left and right. And having a place to process that all, well, it kinda helps.

I know summer weather is more predictable, but can we please take a moment for the damp dewy grass in the mornings and crisp evening air, the gradual change of colour amongst the trees.

I may be partial to this changing season, but gosh, there’s something so beautiful about it.

A few birthdays have come and gone since this business opened. I’ve even closed one decade and began a new one.

We’ve celebrated many more birthdays in our family and with those we hold dear. I think they are wonderful days meant for celebration and maybe by even a bit of reflection.

34. You arrived just as I knew you would. Nothing about you surprised me. Yet, I awoke with anticipation, soon joined by my most precious people, full of excitement, celebration, and love for me. And right now, in this moment, I can’t imagine we’d be anywhere else. There’s much about you that I don’t yet know, so much to be discovered. But the gift of another year, the turning of the page that marks all that is to come, I welcome.

If I’m honest, there’s things that I wish weren’t apart of this day, anxiety, fear, uncertainty, life is funny and even when there’s so much beauty, there can also be hard.

But hand in hand with Life, holding the good and the hard, I know that I’m not the same as I was a year ago, or five, and that the real beauty of aging is in the grace we give ourselves along the way-the grace we give others.

That is my hope for this new year ahead, to give grace to myself, to give grace to the people around me, to graciously close this chapter in just mere weeks.

Grace upon grace.
