Visiting conservation areas is fun, relaxing, and rejuvenating. Let’s make sure everyone shares that feeling.
Be respectful to those around you:
😊Be kind and courteous
🔉Keep noise levels low
🤐Know and respect quiet hours
Conservation areas, parks, and other greenspaces protect thousands of years of natural and cultural history. The NPCA, Ontario Parks, Niagara Parks, and Conservation Ontario are asking you to leave things as they are:
🚫Do not paint, disturb, or take rocks
🚫Do not take driftwood or bark
🚫Do not carve in trees
🚫Do not leave notes or ornaments
Instead – draw pictures or take photos of your discoveries to remember your visit!
Wildflowers, mushrooms, wood, rocks, and shells are some of the cool things you can find in parks in Ontario. And they are meant to stay there.
Keep natural spaces natural for generations to come:
📸Take only photos
💡Leave natural and cultural objects undisturbed
Did you see a cool object on your last visit to a conservation area? Show us a photo!
Keeping your dog on leash allows you to see where they poop. Aside from the obvious reasons to pick up after your dog (ew!), dogs can carry viruses, bacteria and parasites which can be passed on to wild animals.
Please remember to:
💩Bag your pet’s waste and put it in a garbage bin or pack it out
🐶Keep your pet under control
💯Keep your dog on a leash, unless you are in a designated off-leash area
Woodpecker Kerry January 2022
This little woodpecker didn't mind blizzard two weeks ago! Can you guess what kind of woodpecker it is? It is the smallest found in Niagara.
Fun fact: Male and females of this species split up the areas where they look for food in the winter. Males feed on smaller branches and females will feed on larger branches and trunks.
They are great for pest control as they feed on insects including tent caterpillars, bark beetles and apple borers.
