๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ Honouring the Day of Truth and Reconciliation ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Today, we come together to reflect, learn, and honour the Day of Truth and Reconciliation. Itโ€™s a time to acknowledge the injustices and ongoing impacts faced by Indigenous communities, and to commit ourselves to meaningful reconciliation and understanding.

Letโ€™s use this day to educate ourselves, listen to stories, and support efforts toward healing and unity. Every step towards truth and reconciliation is a step toward a more just and inclusive society.

09/30/2024

On this National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we at the Lindsay Downtown BIA acknowledge and honour the rich history and heritage of the Mississauga Peoples and the lands covered by the Williams Treaties. We strive every day to beautify our downtown area as part of the respect we have for the people who had the land before us, ensuring that our efforts reflect the values of inclusion and community.

As part of the Kawartha Lakes, we recognize our responsibility to listen, learn, and support the ongoing journey towards healing and understanding. We believe that together, we can work towards a future that respects and uplifts Indigenous voices and cultures.

As another school year begins, wants to give out a quick reminder to all drivers to be alert, put down the phone and follow the rules when driving near school buses and in school zones. Children are our future! Letโ€™s keep them safe! ๐ŸšŒ ๐Ÿ›‘โœ‹

Almost 834,000 students travel on school buses every day across Ontario. To help keep them safe, drivers should:
* Drive with caution when approaching or passing a school bus
* Obey the speed limit and be prepared to stop for a school bus at any time, not just during school hours
* Never pass a stopped school bus with red upper lights flashing - itโ€™s against the law
* Leave space around school buses so children can get on and off safely
* Stop and yield the whole roadway at pedestrian crossovers, school crossings and other locations where there is a crossing guard.

๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŽจ LAST CALL FOR ARTISTS! ๐Ÿšจ๐ŸŽจ
The deadline to submit your proposal is THIS FRIDAY, August 23rd at 11:59pm! Don't miss this amazing opportunity!

The Downtown Lindsay BIA and the City of Kawartha Lakes are looking for an artist to create a public art installation on the wall next to Kent Street Parkette (125 Kent Street West). This prominent space has been vacant since 1991, and we're seeking a mixed-media, light-enhanced installation to revitalize it, with a design that highlights Lindsay's historic charm.

Submit your proposal now before time runs out! For more info, visit: www.lindsaydowntown.ca/news/public-art-call

Here's a great way to support the local arts and one of the most unique performance venues in the region The Grove Theatre.
The Grove Theatre have a fundraising campaign called Light Up the Grove. For a donation of $1,500, a beautiful light engraved with your name or dedication will be permanently installed on the path. These lights will illuminate the pathway to the stage through a winding path in the woods. Magical. Tim Wisener (pictured) is the co-founder and treasurer of Grove Theatre. His vision, dedication and love of the arts is admirable. This fundraising campaign will help them purchase the sound and lighting system they need and thus not need to rent each year. This way they can put more resources into maintaining the theatre and continue bringing the highest level of entertainment to our community.
