As the combines start rolling, it's time to give a huge shout-out to the hardworking farmers in The Midwest for the long hours, the stress, the commitment – they do it all to feed the world.

Let’s show our appreciation by nominating them for a Meal In The Field!

Chuckwagon Racing Icon Ray Mitsuing Passes Away at 70

The chuckwagon racing community is reeling today following the sudden passing of racing legend Ray Mitsuing. With a career spanning 36 illustrious years, Mitsuing left an incredible mark on the sport, capturing the hearts of thousands of fans and earning accolades as a seven-time Canadian Professional Chuckwagon Association (CPCA) champion.

Mitsuing's contributions extended beyond the racetrack. As Chief of the Loon Lake First Nation, he was a respected leader and advocate for his community. Additionally, he dedicated himself to mentoring First Nations youth, imparting valuable lessons of animal care and respect.

Transitioning from driving thoroughbred chariots to thoroughbred wagons, Mitsuing showcased his versatility and skill, culminating in his crowning achievement as the Calgary Stampede Aggregate Champion in 1992.

Despite his own numerous triumphs on the track, Mitsuing often cited his sons' victories as the pinnacle of his career, cherishing moments like his son's CPCA Championship wins.

Alongside his wife Josephine, Mitsuing raised four sons — Dale, Darren, Devin, and Dean — who have carried on their fathers racing tradition since before and after his retirement from the sport in 2019.

As the chuckwagon racing community mourns the loss of one of its brightest stars, Mitsuing's impact will continue to resonate. Ray Mitsuing will posthumously be inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall Of fame later this year and is the first Chuckwagon driver ever inducted.

LOCATED - Stolen Fire Truck: Islay

Wildland #3-4, a critical piece of our County wildfire fleet, was located earlier this morning after being reported stolen just past 9 a.m. thanks to the quick and dedicated work of the RCMP Kitscoty and RCMP Vermilion Detachments, neighboring law enforcement agencies and the public who shared our message and called in tips.

The RCMP continue to investigate and the County is providing pertinent information/alarm-surveillance footage.
