Which one to attend: a tech conference, an entrepreneurial summit, or a celebration of African innovation?
Itβs like trying to choose a favorite child!
Last week, I had the pleasure of diving into three incredible events:
Roadmap to Billions, Elevate, and
Each was a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and the incredible potential of Black voices in these spaces.
Navigating overlapping conferences can be tricky, but with the right strategy, you can make the most of your experience.
Here are five tips for effective networking that might just save you from FOMO:
Set Clear Goals: Before diving in, decide what you want to achieve. Are you looking for inspiration, collaboration, or perhaps just a great snack?
Do Your Homework: Check out the speakers and attendees in advance. Target those who align with your interests and can help you achieve your goals (bonus points if they have interesting stories!).
Quality Over Quantity: Instead of collecting business cards like PokΓ©mon, focus on forming genuine connections with a few key people. Deep conversations can lead to unexpected opportunities.
Be Approachable: A smile goes a long way. You never know who might approach you for a chatβjust be ready to swap some amazing stories.
Follow Up: After the event, send a quick message to those you connected with. Itβs a great way to keep the conversation going and explore potential collaborations.
This week, I met some incredible women who inspired me and reminded me of the power of community.
Letβs keep lifting each other upβafter all, you never know when you might need to be a blessing in someone elseβs life!

The night would not be complete unless some kind of fireworks were added
We had a remarkable time at the IFT Community Carnival in Scarborough!!FLICK FIREWORKS have the privilege of doing their spectacular firework finale.
This year marked our second consecutive year contributing to Canadaβs largest Muslim carnival, and we couldnβt be happier with the outcome.
The event featured an array of activities, including rides, bouncy castles, a car show, and a petting zoo, bringing together families and friends for a day filled with joy and laughter.
Weβre already looking forward to next yearβs celebration in Scarborough.
If youβre interested in booking a firework display, weβre now accepting bookings for September and October.

Iβm deeply grateful for the chance to attend the Blockchain Futurist Conference 2024 thanks to a complimentary pass.
It was amazing to attend all the workshops and keynote sessions, being present allowed me to absorb the energy and insights of this pivotal event and get a glimpse into the future of blockchain.
This conference was a remarkable gathering with over 10,000 attendees, 250+ speakers, and 300+ sponsors. Highlights included 35 on-site events, 2 hackathons, and even a dog on stage!
The vibrancy and innovation on display were truly inspiring.
For us as Black professionals, particularly women, itβs vital to engage in these discussions and be part of the evolving landscape.
I look forward to applying what Iβve learned and continuing to foster understanding and growth within our community.
Thank you to everyone who made this event such a success.
Hereβs to many more opportunities to learn, connect, and contribute to the future of Web3.

On August 1, we had the distinct honor of contributing to a truly significant event at the Blackhurst Cultural Centre. In celebration of Emancipation Day and in honor of the life and legacy of Louis March, we orchestrated a drone show that illuminated the night sky. This date held even more meaning as it marked Mr. Marchβs birthday, a poignant reminder of his impact on our community.
Our drone display symbolized the Freedom Ride from Union Station to Downsview Park Station, a powerful tribute to the Underground Railroad. This journey was more than just a ride; it was a celebration of resilience, freedom, and the enduring spirit of those who fought for liberation.
We are grateful for the partnership with the TTC and the City of Toronto, who helped make this event possible. Their collaboration was instrumental in ensuring that the significance of the Freedom Ride was highlighted, connecting our history with the present in a meaningful way.
Being part of this event allowed us to reflect on the importance of Emancipation Day and the rich cultural heritage it represents. We are incredibly proud to have played a role in this commemoration, using our technology to bring to life the stories and sacrifices that continue to inspire us all.
