🏆 We’re honoured to announce that Standing in the Doorway: Lived Histories and Experiences of the Chinese Community has received the prestigious Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Community Programming!

2024 marks the 100th anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Before the founding of the RCAF in 1924, Canadian airmen served in the British Empire’s Royal Flying Corps and its successor the Royal Air Force.
Captain George Arthur Beatty, a resident of Markham, served in the Royal Flying Corps and later in the Royal Air Force during World War I. Upon enlisting and completing training, George was stationed at the Cramlington Aerodrome airfield in England. He served from 1917 until 1919, and was a member of the No.92 Squadron of the RAF.
Later in his life, George, along with his wife Agnes and their daughter Jeanne, moved to Markham after he retired from a career as a bank manager. George lived in Markham until his death in 1998 at 103 years old.
The City of Markham would also like for you to join us for the 30th Annual City of Markham Remembrance Day Ceremony.

Date: Monday, November 11, 2024
Location: Flato Markham Theatre, (reserved seating for Veterans and their families)
Time: Doors open 10:30AM, Ceremony begins at 10:55AM – Flag raising and Dove release immediately following

This year we’re highlighting 100 years of service for the Royal Canadian Air Force and we will also remember our Veterans who served in Afghanistan. Canada’s military mission in Afghanistan came to an end 10 years ago on March 12, 2014.
