We are a little obsessed with documentaries around here at TSEF and this one is at the top of our watch list at the moment! What REALLY happens to our plastic recycling?

The docu-series titled The Recycling Myth will bust the myths and misinformation and take a closer look at what is fact and what is fiction.

The films dig deep into what happens to our plastic trash, investigate industry pledges as well as unveil the local and global effects our plastic use has on the environment - and on our health. Filmed across the globe and revealing the latest scientific research, the series will bring uncomfortable facts to the table, confronting the audience with surprising findings as well as powerful narratives of the lives of those directly affected by plastic pollution.

👀 You can view this on CBC (please check their program guide for times in your area)- a link can be found in our bio

We haven't chatted a ton about incentive travel at TSEF, but it's no doubt it's going to come under scrutiny as companies pledge carbon neutrality. This week we are joined by Liz Holtby, the Chair of the SITE Canada Sustainability Committee and incoming President of Site Canada and Liz Akey, a long time SITE member and enthusiastic learner on all things sustainable. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We talk to them about their personal journeys in the first episode and in the second episode, we cover where the industry is going and where it needs to go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🙋🏼‍♀️You are note alone. Climate change is scary and its only natural to feel scared, confused and hopeless at times. This is why at TSEF we reach out to others in the sustainability field- both in and out of the events industry to learn and listen. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Collaboration fosters a sense of community and purpose and this is how we encourage others to approach this daunting topic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You are not alone⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Together we can and will make a difference. 🌏⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

While we think you should be going plastic free every day, we know that it can be a near impossible task- plastic is everywhere and in everything it seems! (we'll save that rant for another day!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This month we are joining millions around the globe in raising awareness about plastic pollution. So how can you make sure you're avoiding single-use plastics at all costs and are disposing of your plastic trash responsibly? Well may we suggest grabbing a cuppa coffee/tea (in your reusable cup of-course!😉) and tuning into episode 1 of Planners For The Planet Podcast where we chat with Ashley Wallis Environmental Defence, who knows a LOT about plastic! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When we think of beautiful British Columbia this is NOT the image that comes to mind, however these are the images that have been dominating our media as of late with the current heat dome that is ravaging our west coast.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Record high history setting temps of 49.5 degrees celsius, wildfires and loss of life. THIS is our reality and its time we wake up and take ACTION against climate change. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Climate needs to be a TOP consideration in your events and planning process- there are no events on a dead planet⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Sustainable Events Forum

Dedicated to creating a more sustainable events industry through educational and networking events for event professionals.

One of the easiest and fastest ways to make sustainable changes to your business, whether you are hosting or attending the events, is through your travel and event practices. There is no large capital expenditure, the planet doesn't need to be retrofitted - smart planning and green procurement is all that is needed.

We've all seen the news and heard the dire reports for our future, that if we don't act our future is threatened. As business owners and event hosts ourselves, we've been there - wondering how to sift through tons of information and find the right actions to take. Like you, we want to make a difference in a practical way that will create lasting change.
